Zorro Telenovela, First Episode. SPOILERS

Good News. It has English Closed Captions.


So far, so good. It was a little slow at first, introducing all the characters, but we ended up getting some Zorro swordplay action towards the end.

The show tends to bounce between scenes of slapstick humor, and brutal scenes of rape and murder, which can be a little jarring at times.

In this version, Zorro is a young Don Diego de La Vega, a lawyer and ladies man, fighting against the tyranny of the Spanish in Los Angeles. His father thinks he has no ambitions, and his secret is shared by his mute manservant Bernardo, and the local friar.

His love interest is Esmeralda, a young, spunky, free spirit, who's been unloved by her father, the Governer of California, and is the black sheep of her family. She has gypsy blood in her, and is hated by her half sister. Though we do learn that Esmerelda and Diego are cousins. (Diego's aunt is Esmeralda's real mother; who's also the queen of the gypsies? WTF?)


Good production values, filmed on location in Colombia.

Alright, watched the second episode, and it's getting better.

I'm probably the only one watching this, but here goes.

Second Episode SPOILERS











OK So Zorro is NOT in love with his cousin. My bad. Esmeralda's mom was a gypsy queen, Sara Kali, that was exiled to California by Esmeralda's father, the evil Governer. Don Diego's Aunt was just in love with Evil Governer, Fernando Sanchez de Moncada, but after Fernando raped and pillaged the Comanche tribe that Diego's mom was a part of (and raped Diego's mom, that's how he lost his eye. Oh yeah, he wears an eyepatch), she mysteriously became a nun.


In this episode we see Zorro and Esmeralda escape the Spanish Guard as Zorro rescues a gypsy prisoner that the evil Captain Ricardo Montero was going to have killed.

We also see Don Diego trying to woo Esmeralda to no avail, for Zorro is a greater man than Don Deigo de la Vega. Their carraige gets carjacked by the gypsy that Zorro had freed.

Esmeralda's slutty sister Maria De Los Angeles Sanchez de Moncada boinks Captain Montero in the garden.

We see the a lady in an Iron mask imprisoned. My guess is that it's Esmeralda's mom, Sara Kali, the queen of the gypsies.

Diego's comanche uncle plots the death of Governer de Moncada.

Diego's Nun Aunt comes into a room with a naked nun performing self flagulation for some unknown sin.

Zorro then comes into Esmeralda's bedroom at night, because earlier, they had accidentaly switched medallions.







Observations:

I am in love with Marlene Favela. She is so beautiful!

The theme song is a Flameco Duet by Alejandro Fernandez and Beyonce Knowles?
Beyonce sings in Spanish and it sounds pretty damn good! I'm surprised!

About a minute in, you can see the opening credits, with Beyonce singing the theme in Spanish.

This actually sounds somewhat fun.

Might try to catch an episode if it ever reaches my shores (plenty of hispanic soaps / telenovelas do, even if painfully dubbed in the process, but not that many compared to the output of them that exists).
