An excellent and oft-neglected product which provides some of the best and briefest information available for establishing a realistic game world and realistic campaign dynamics.

A nice review of an excellent book! I think that Campaign Law is one of the best RPG supplements of all time -- I've used it everytime I've built a world/campaign setting (whether Rolemaster or not). It's been sadly overlooked.

I agree. vide quoque Gamemaster Law, which was years ahead of its time, in terms of theoretical discussion of gaming etc. It's really unfortunate that Rolemaster eventually received the eponym "rollmaster".

I tend to steer away from gaming material that tries to walk you through world and/or campaign creation. Those always seemed to me like the most obviously personal aspects of gaming - it is sort of like reading a book to tell you how to write a novel or have a day dream. Obviously some people like these instructionals more than I do. What, exactly, do you use them for?

Campaign Law doesn't detract from the personal aspects; if anything it actually enhances it by inspiration from providing comprehensive information and expectations on geographical and social formations.

I wonder if ICE will do a RM Classic Edition of Campaign Law and bring it "up to time". It would be a shame if not since RM is just that - about universality, isn't it? And that means you could use it for any existing RPG gaming world - or create just your own.
And if someone is bikkering that he doesn't have any use for smth like that because it's all so easy and well known that everyone could do it by himself...well in that case I would just like to add that this definately counts for rules too, doesn't it?
Well...Campaign Law does reduce work for the occasional world builder if you let it do it.
I love it. And it spured an idea or two for existing worlds that I have game mastered. I really wonder if they (ICE) could do a RM Classsic edition of CL and expand it a bit in the direction of depth as the old LUG Star Trek Narrators Toolkits were. Great works indeed! Especially for beginners but for pros' also!
