Thanks for the detailed review.

I've had a chance to play this on a few occassions now. Your review is pretty much in keeping with my experiences. One player was particularly turned off by the randomness (due to an inability to roll above a three all night), but overall it was enjoyable.

I really liked the look and feel of the original cloth map. That and the plain bits helped a lot in getting into the theme. But of course that's said without playing the new edition, which I may like as well.

Also, I did a quick check and it appears that the MSRP of the game is $49.99, not $39.99. That's looking at online retailers 'original' prices.

I always use funagain.com as my price reference. They're listed it for $40 and selling it for $32.

Regarding the issue of randomness, at EndGame I just saw a set of "dice" cards that are like the Settlers cards, 36 cards for making dice rolls arbitrary rather then random. I wonder if there is some way that something like this could be used in Fire & Axe? Obviously there are more dice involved so you couldn't use these cards, but some mechanic like that?
