[Board/Tactical Game]: The Lord of the Rings Battlefields Expansion, reviewed by ShannonA (5/5)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/12/12981.phtml

Shannon Appelcline's Summary:

An excellent addition to Reiner Knizia's Lord of the Rings board game that duplicates the original gameplay in a very different venue.

Can the Battlefields Expansion be combined with either Friends & Foes or Sauron expansions?

Could you run an uber-LOTR game with all the expansions?

I didn't play them with any others, but given Reiner Knizia, I suspect yes.

The Friends & Foes interaction seems quite clear. There are battlefields for both extra boards and one of the enemies has as its reward that you get to kill some foes. I suspect this pairing works great.

I really have no idea for Sauron other than my affirmative suspicion.

Absolutely. We've run several F&F/BF combos and the two were obviously designed to work together. While we haven't run Sauron, there are no changes in this new expansion that would impact a Sauron player -- he would continue to play cards as appropriate, with no real interaction with the new Battlefields Boards.

Easily. Over on BoardGameGeek there's a thread for those who have done this. I'm not quite sure exactly how one would survive such a game, but at least the Sauron player will end happy.

For the record, however, while Battlefields was clearly designed with Friends & Foes in mind, it was not explicitly designed to support the Sauron expansion. I'm sure it's not beyond the wit of man to hack up a way to play all 4, but this is Reiner Knizia we're talking about here so I'm sure if it were easy or wise he would have given it to us. The fact that it's not in there probably should tell you something
