If table-top action adventure in a world where flintlocks and torches are hi-tech paranormal research tools appeals to you, Chaos in Carpathia (Gothic Horror Miniature Battles) might just be what you're looking for.

Thanks for the review, Daron! One small point however:
"After a successful hit, next comes damage. The attacking model's weapon is rolled off against the hit model's Damage Resistance. For every point the weapon's goals exceed the victim's DR, a point of Vitality is lost."
In Carpathia the opposed damage roll mechanic is done away with in favor of set Damage Numbers, or DN's that the targeted model must roll against using his DR. Attacks that succeed by 3+ goals add +1 to the DN. For example, if a Heavy Pistol has DN5, and the attacker succeeds by 3+, the defender most roll his DR pool vs. the DN6 (DN5 + 1 for the extra lethality of the hit).
If the defender matches or beats the DN, he takes no damage. If he fails to match it, he suffers the difference in Vitality loss. Once players have a grasp of it, this resolution mechanic is quicker and more lethal than the roll-off one used in Cairo. However, we do include optional rules in the Appendix to allow players who still preferred the old system to convert back to dice rolls for damage.

Great review, Daron. Over the years I've always liked your reviews here.
Looks like I'm sold on getting this game. I've always been interested in Supersystem and own the rules, but the game always plays too slowly for me. Plus, I am horrible at games using Action Points. I cannot keep track of them.
It seems like CiC fixes all my gripes about the S2 rules! Sad thing is that for the past few years I have been working on my own set of skirmish rules. Most evenings I have spent pecking away at them in Word. Looks like I can lay them to rest now that CiC is out! At least now I can have time to paint and work on my ACW rules.

My misread on damage rolls defiinitely affects gameplay.
For one thing, it's a little quicker because you're not having two players rolling separate dice pools.
It would also appear----at first glance--- to make holy water much nastier against vampires. Or is that my wishful thinking (can you tell who plays the monster hunter band?)?

Thanks for the compliment.
Other than sharing the same author and dice rolling concept, CIC and S2 are VERY unique games. Both are excellent at what they do. Almost like a GURPS for minis-skirmish play (assuming one likes GURPS, that is)

This seems like a neat game. I shall have to consider acquiring it ...

I picked up the "sleepy hollow" boxed set (It's a set of minis with a quick-play rules sheet.) Some of the other minis gamers at Origins were raving about CiC. Can't wait to bust it open and try out the rules.
