I've played a short campaign.

The whiff factor is very high, even with Plot Points. And you'll easily be in "Plot Suck" if the GM isn't remembering to hand out Plot Points often enough. Renewal is entirely in the GMs hands, so if they're not handing them out, be prepared to fail a lot.

Be sure that everyone at your table has the same printing of the rulebook, as the 4th corrects and changes a number of rules from the 1st-3rd. FYI, the GM screen that's available does not have these corrections.

There's a trait whose name I'm forgetting which basically gives you an extra action each round. It's the most desirable and powerful trait thingy in the game. If your PC is at all intended to get into a fight, you want that trait.

Overall, our group had fun playing in the 'Verse, but the system left us cold, and we don't plan to ever play it again.

I'm inclined to agree. I've nothing particularly bad to say about the system.
The trouble is, I've nothing particularly good to say about it, either.

It's a 'meh' system, for me. It's competent enough, but not particularly evocative of the setting.

The rules for ballistic mesh are totally different, IIRC, and that's a big deal as it's easily the most useful piece of equipment in the game. I believe there were a lot of bits in the combat chapter that were different, too; various combat maneuvers worked differently.

Something came up every session, pretty much.

I just flipped through it in my gaming club and was surprised by the fact that the system seems to be nothing more than a bad version of Savage Worlds.
Also I didn't like the fact that so much space was taken up describing the Serenity and its crew, I mean you are not supposed to play Mal & Co. are you?
The layout is sweet though.

Having not played it (but having played Savage Worlds), I wouldn't say its a "bad version." Once you get past the polyhedral dice, I think it's closer to Unisystem.

I also don't think too much space was taken up describing the canon characters. On par with the Buffy and Angel books, I think. A licensed product should have that kind of stuff in it; it's just a question of how much of it people want.

The background starfield graphic annoys the hell out of me. It's worse on the left-facing pages.

Seconded. It's not an easy book to read.
