Ryan Dancy on how to save gaming

Ryan Dancy has posted a blog posting on how to save gaming and improve things overall.

Somethings I agree with, many I do not.

And finally, I review video games for Viceland, which is not safe for work.

Re: Ryan Dancy on how to save gaming

He's right about making plain the differences between MMORPGs and TTRPGs (although as long as it's not like the D&D print ads from a year or two back, because they were crap).

He's wrong about the reason why people play D&D. Dead wrong.

Re: Ryan Dancy on how to save gaming

So, in summary, he's arguing that we should call our hobby 'Storytelling' games, rather than 'Roleplaying' games?

Didn't somebody come up with that idea......like....more than 15 years ago?

Re: Ryan Dancy on how to save gaming

Perhaps we should call them Story Telling Interactive games, or STI games for short. That should improve their public image, and would make this site STI Online.

Stories Holistically Interactively Told.

Our hobby is SHIT.

Re: Ryan Dancy on how to save gaming

Of course, the whole argument rests on whether you accept the premise that the hobby "needs saving". The jury is still out on that one.
