If you're willing to explore the role-playing medium, and take it seriously, definitely try Polaris. It's for those who like their role-playing challenging, full of potential, stimulating and new. However, it needs a campaign, and a group willing to take the time to grasp the complexity and subtleties little by little, to get maximum enjoyment.
This is just bizarre. I write a review of Rogue Mistress and someone comments that they're starting a PBeM using the supplement on this day. And here you go writing a review of Polaris when my Friday night gaming group is just starting a game.
Synchronicity!

There seems to be a rash of "I've had Polaris on my shelf for a year and a half, and I finally got it out and played it" recently, with mostly positive results. I'm very happy for the trend.
