From the opening paragraph to the end of the book, Witch Hunter is an immersive roleplaying game book that never breaks from its intended vision and goal. If you are interested in horror gaming in a bygone era you need to check out Witch Hunter: The Invisible World.

Thanks for the review, HalWhitewyrm!
Do you think this might be a little too much of a vague, positive blurb about the game? I know I like to see some opinion and critique in reviews. Perhaps answering questions like: "What's good about this game? What's bad? What's your actual play like? How's the magic system? How does the game, as a whole, support its horror goal?" could help?
I know this can't just be an ad for the Digital Front Podcast, because that would be lame. So, HalWhitewyrm, tell us what you think!

Say, are you by any chance in any way involved with the producers of this game? I’m sorry, but this strongly smacks of promotion.

Grrrr! I was thinking the same thing. It does a really good job of selling me on how cool and neat it is...but then doesn't really explain exactly WHAT is cool an neat.
I like what I'm hearing here...but I want a little more information on teh meat and crunch before I make a purchase.

having read the more extensive review, I'm intrigued by the setting (though a bit chary of the system, it seems a little crunchier than I usually go for). was the timeline written especially for the game? it certainly seems so, what with making women more prominent (and thus playable) and the other little changes. it's a more solid piece of world-building than Solomon Kane.

The game takes place in 1689, with an altered view of history. It's a history in which magic was/is real. So, for example, Cortes did not conquer the Aztecs and the Aztec Empire is still alive and well. Also, the Church actually sanctions some mages because mages serve in royal courts and things like that.
At the same time, you still have nods to history like Jamestown, the Fire of London, things like that.

Even our rules have stories, and the system is simple to learn, but robust in use. There is nothing it can't handle and you won't have to look up how to do it. It also is set up to where, if you don't know exactly how it works you can easily make up a usable solution with no delay that will work perfectly well.
