[Card Game]: Glory to Rome, I.V Edition, reviewed by Tom Vasel (4/5)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/13/13650.phtml

Tom Vasel's Summary:

I recommended that players get the game when it first came out; I doubly push that recommendation now. The components are drastically improved, the rules more so, and the entire game plays in a tight, engaging fashion. Don't put off checking out this deep, strategic card game - a tremendous value for the price.

Just curious, as I couldn't find reference to an 'IV' edition on the website, but is the 'IV' indicative of some kind of abbreviation, or is it the fourth edition of the game and they've decided to put it in Roman numerals for obvious reasons?

I think it's kind of a joke, it's the I.V, i.e., 1.5 edition. They changed a fair amount of stuff but it's not a different game.

I actually haven't played the first edition, just the I.V edition, but the biggest thing that people seemed to complain about was the very powerful Colosseum (I'm surprised Tom didn't talk about this at all). Again, having not played version I, my understanding is that this has been addressed not by powering down the Colosseum at all, but by including several cheap counter-buildings (the Palisade and Wall), which protect you from the Legionary role. If someone slaps down a Colosseum early, you better get working on at least a Palisade.
