[RPG]: Truth & Justice, reviewed by Baz King (3/5)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/13/13665.phtml

barry stevens's Summary:

This game is just right. It’s the closest I’ve seen to emulating and supporting the bonkers, colourful stories I read every month in the funny books. It’s charming, honest and full of passion for the genre. Sure the mechanics are a bit loose when run at speed, but since when did comics make any sense? This games embraces the madness and the affection for it's sources drips off the pages. Fantastic.

Good review. You hit most of the points I have too: a great game; pretty much my default Supers game now (I'm running a 1970's marvel-style game right now; see sig; end plug); with some weird bits where it seemed the enthusiasm pooped out, particularly the Powers list.

One example of that: I had a player making a mentalist, who pointed out that there is no telekinesis power. Surely that's not right, I thought. But she was right: we have Energy Blast and Energy Beam, but no Telekinesis. Of course, this is T&J, so it was simplicity itself to make up the power, but I still had to do some heavy lifting (my call: TK lets you use lift objects with a weight and range from the Intensity Chart; damage is normal-scale, however, and not super).

Hmn, that all sounded negative: Chad, I love the game. But I hope for some tighter editing next time around.

It was very much my pleasure! I loved your game and I hope that came through in the review.

Frye? I'm sure it's all well and good but it's your own analysis of tropes that I was interested in, and your take on them was the best bit of the book for me.
