Eldritch is a generic fantasy system that plays quickly and well, using simple mechanics to excellent effect. The core rules as they stand, though, require an experienced gamemaster, and some perseverance.

Well, you hit all the points I was going to hit in [I]my[I] review! Guess I'll scrap that one! But your review was great, so thanks.
I must definitely agree that the presentation of the rules really need an adjustment. It took me two full readings through the book to actually figure out what the heck I was reading and how the whole system worked. I think ERP is a good game marred by some confusing text and just too much terminology.
That being said, I hope they put out a second printing or a revised edition to help clear things up a little.

I really didn't want to be interested in this game. And yet, I'm finding myself more and more so. I'd like to hear some Actual Play if someone has done so.

I've been having a lot of fun running Eldritch. I actually converted over a Castles & Crusades campaign. The conversion was very straight forward since characters are made up of abilities (skill chains) and Advantages.

I'll look at that. Let me ask this: how would you compare play or ERP to older (pre-3rd ed) D&D? Not better or worse or judgement calls like that, but what play simialrly; what play different?

It's pretty different. At least when starting with new characters. In Eldritch new characters are quite capable but cannot hang around in a fight too long. But that probably applies to almost any character in the system.
I converted the campaign over for two reasons. To try out a new system and I got a bit weary of pulling punches and hoping that the 4 HP gnome doesn't get hit. In Eldritch that gnome can dodge, evade, and be more part of the story when action hits. At least in the style of play that my group and I prefer.

When rolling multiple skill dice, is it add the all together or take the best?

The Quickstart mentions "Levels", but doesn't discuss. I didn't see any mention in the review either. However, the first Pre-Gen suggests that Level determine the number of Character Points--is that right? So, is "Level" in ERP more like "Level" in Mutants & Masterminds?
I'm intrigued by the flow-chart idea. I've been using flowcharts for awhile now, but the idea of mashing together the flowchart with the map? That's interesting.
