Pratchett writes on Alzheimer's and the NHS

The novels turn up as they always have — only the typing is hard. There will now be a moment when the letter A, say, vanishes. It’s as if the keyboard closes up and the letter A is not there anymore. Then I’ll blink a few times and concentrate and it comes back.
Not even sure what to say about this article...

Wow. Hard stuff.

Although I really can't believe that is a picture of Terry Pratchett at the top of the page. Unless he shaved his beard and this disease has aged him another 15 years.

For a person like him though there can be no more sinister disease. I think the next paragraph was much more chilling.

I’ve handed in my driving licence — if my brain won’t let me see that A, it might not let me see the child on the pedestrian crossing. Unlikely, at this stage, but who would risk it?

Although I wish this were posted on another site. I found having a poignant article next to links to "My secret lesbian lust with Lindsay" and "SEX: I HAVE 200 ORGASMS A DAY" to be really disruptive.

The BBC has posted two articles about him today, in which he justifiably has rather a lot to say, and says it well:

An ailing brain with imagination undimmed

Pratchett criticises drugs ruling

He doesn't sugar-coat anything. Then again, if you were in his position, would you want to?

It's not. The alt text reads "ALZHEIMER'S SUFFERER: posed by a model;" only the caption says "ALZHEIMER'S SUFFERER: Terry Pratchett." That's about par for the course for that pathetic excuse for a newspaper.

Kind of fits the whole "funding of ****** but not of the alzheimer's drug", though.

Here's a good interview with him about the subject.

I am not and never have been a fan of Pratchett's work.

That said, this is really shitty. I knew a few people who had Alzheimer's and it wasn't pretty.

I'm not clicking.

I just can't. It would hurt too much.

The interview I linked to is really good, not at all depressing.

On the bright side, he still has his thoughts and memories and ideas. That's one of the most terrifying parts of Alzheimers and his doesn't effect those for awhile.
