I predict you will get ripped for providing something that's more an editorial comment or a personal experience report than a "proper" review, but I want to thank you for your honesty. Whether or not your experience is the same as anybody else's (and I wouldn't know), this is a valuable perspective to share. So thanks for sharing it.

Yeah, I guess this thread will degenerate into review-bashing quickly, so let me thank you for your review before that starts Friends of mine terminated their 4E campaign for more or less exactly the same reasons. I'll show them your review so they know they're not alone

Excellent venting, but not really a review...
Regardless, I agree with most of your points. Not sure if the healing surge is to blame tho'. I think it goes deeper than that: The entire game is built around "The Fight" with only a slight nod towards everything else.

Thanks for that review. I'd read the 4th edition books, and was going to try them out, but they were just so boring. I read gaming books for fun, a lot, and ... there's not very much fun in 4th edition books. It helps to hear reports like this.

(Though, to be fair, one of the best GMs I know is running D&D 4th edition and having a great time with it. It's not hopeless. It's tofu: bland and dull innately, but with good spices it tastes quite good.)

I applaud you for your bravery, oh reviewer, to go against the grain with your highly critical review.

An execrable review; a merely subpar blog entry.

Interesting perspective. It seems DD4 looks a lot like most action movies where's there's not much o a story, and what there is serves chiefly as an excuse for just another action scene.

I didn't think it was terribly inappropriate as a playtest log.

VS of course cannot come here to defend his review because he got banned ages ago. Do bear that in mind when flaming him, lads.

Maybe so, but it's still highly useful. It confirms what I suspected already: D&D 4e is not for me.
