"The ability to switch your body at will, from genetically-modified transhumans to synthetic robotic shells, optimizing your character for specific missions."
Re: Jumping Jesus Fuckcakes, this is neat - Eclipse Phase!
I really like the setting description...
REALLY not pleased with the "Brought to you by the people who were the driving force behind the changes made with Shadowrun, Fourth Edition."
But that may be because I'm a neolithic luddite afraid of change. Or maybe it's justified.
And though I recognize that backing-up a PC's mind is EFFECTIVELY a "save point", I'm not keen on being reminded of how much MMORPG-theory is infecting my TTRPG gaming.
But, overall, it looks pretty cool.

There was a huge-ass thread, but most of its hugeness was a debate on what makes Eclipse Phase better/different than the handful of other transhumanist games out there. Now that it's a little nearer to cresting the horizon, I think it deserves a new thread. I know I'd love to give it a play!

I think one of the features of the RPG industry is ridiculously awesome levels of "duplication"... who was it who said "I can't decide if the best thing is that there are not one but two RPGs about 1930's hobos...or that both of them are awesome"

Agreed, that unsold me. It's like saying "Brought to you by the people who were the driving force behind running over your beloved puppy when you were little, and replacing it with an angry wolverine!"
Edit- Okay, that's a bit of hyperbole. But, still, SR4 sucks compared to SR3.

Enh. Just opens potential for more twisted stories around identity theft. But at the "spiritual" level.
What happens when one of your personalities gets "loose" and doesn't want to synchronize itself with you? What if you're that personality? And wherever your personality is stored, it's probably vulnerable to theft, destruction, and unwanted alterations.
Granted, I'm not saying EP does or doesn't dwell on these issues, just that removing death as a threat to PCs can actually create all kinds of new questions and issues.
