I'd agree that's on the high end for a 2-player game if you don't ever expect to play it 3-player. However, if you play 2 player games a lot, I think it's got a lot of value.
Anecdotally, I can tell you that the original Ticket to Ride game has racked up 69 games for me to date, the vast majority of which were 2 player games with my wife.
You can also try out the game system at ticket2ridegame.com to see what you think, though the Nordic variant isn't available.

It sounds like a bit much at $50, but this is a great 2 and 3 player game. With the 3 player game, it's going to be a bit contentious, but even with the 2 players, there are still plenty of chokepoints to make it a challenge.
The TtR series plays fast too, so you don't have to set aside a 2-hour block of time to play it. You can bang out a game in about 30-45 minutes if both players know what they want.
I highly recommend the series to players of many different levels. It really is just a fun game. My personal recommendation is to start with the American (original) one, then move on to the others.

Oh, don't get me wrong - I enjoy me a good game of Ticket to Ride. And I"m considering this off and on.
But I've already got three copies of T2R, and it sounds like this is $50 to buy all the pieces again, with just the rules and the board different? That just strikes me as pricey for a two-player game. If anything else, you'ld think it would be cheaper because they don't have to make as many of the little plastic trains.
