[Miniature]: World of Warcraft Miniatures Game, reviewed by philreed (3/3)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/14/14058.phtml

Philip Reed's Summary:

A fun game, with a great time mechanic, that still has enough annoying elements that I'm torn between getting in deeper and fleeing from the broken bits.

Thanks for the review. It was a solid read and a good balance of info and opinions. I am myself struggling with the idea of buying into it (I like WoW in theory, but never found a WoW game that I like).

My favorite part of the review is: Upper Deck admits that their bases out-and-out suck, since the tournament rules document specifically says: "For competitive tournaments, players are required to use pen and paper to track damage and clocks of each of their and opponents’ characters." Yeah, that’s a sign that they know there’s a problem. I physically picked up the display model at the game store two or three times and that base fell off every time. Learning that factoid made me smile.

Thank you. It was a difficult review to like, because I'm really torn on the game.

I recommend downloading the rules and then buying one booster pack. Find someone else to play against and you'll get a pretty good of how the game plays.

It gets better with more options (boosters), but one booster should give you a pretty good taste.

Re: [Miniature]: World of Warcraft Miniatures Game, reviewed by philreed (3/3)

I had a demo of this game at Game 08 in Manchester a week before the launch.

Superb gamplay and yes, the UBases suck. I was also very annoyed about the lack of launch support here in the UK for the game.

But I love it and play it lots.

Looking forward to the development of the game which will include raids and dungeons.

UBases Re: [Miniature]: World of Warcraft Miniatures Game, reviewed by philreed (3/3)

One way to think of the ubases that (might, haha) prevent frustration is to think of them as pedestals only. The rules included with the box (in their defense) do say to place the mini on the ubase, not click it in. Maybe cuz they figured out that not all of the figures do click in and none reliably.

Try this:

To turn the ubase clock: *While keeping the figure on the table*, use your thumb and index finger to push down on the figure's base (to "lock" it - and therefore the health number - into the ubase) and then turn while keeping a fingertip from your other hand near one of the protruding handles. That seemed to do the trick for me.

Unfortunately this would probably not work too well in a crowded area. Also I didn't trust my 4-year-old son to do this reliably. He's a little cheating punk if you let him, haha.
