A quick dungeon explanation game that can be played two-player or solitaire; includes elegant mechanics, deck construction, and a solo system that's quite interesting.

It's an interesting game, and the artwork's quite good, but ultimately ... it feels like an unsolvable puzzle. I'm not sure if it's because I don't have the rules internalized, but it's frequent in my limited experience that you end up with three monsters, all of which with a score higher than your attack + die max. Which ends up being frustrating, due to unwinnableness.

I think I played through four games before I was able to win. But, that was partially due to inexperience. I suspect the ratio would come down with additional play. But, even if it stayed 4:1, that wouldn't be too far from some versions of true Solitaire. I think you just have to change your perspective as to what type of game it is. In Solitaire, you do sometimes get stuck.
As for not getting stuck: you need to figure out how to manage your mana so that you have it available when those tough monsters come up.

yeah. I'm not saying it's a bad game, just that it's a solitaire puzzle type game with lots of avenues for stuckness rather than a true dungeoncrawler (like, say, Dungeoneer can be).
I also got hit in the head with expectation difference with that game. I wasn't expecting it (despite reading reviews) to be quite so ... whatever it is.
That said, it's still good, and at the price, I'd say it's worth getting a deck, as it's a fun way to use up some time, or divert yourself from other things.
