Ye Olde School Fantasy Art

Howdy folks, I'm a fan of art from the "old" style. Here are some of my scribblings:

The "Green" Goblin

What does a rust monster eat?
Iron rations...

I'll be available for commissions in July/August (I'm about to go through a big move), but some of my art is available now as stock art on RPGNOW under the publisher name Ye Olde School Stock Art.

Love.

this.

stuff.

It was artwork like this that made me want to be a fantasy illustrator. I feel like I'm flipping through my dog-eared copy of the original Monster Manual again.

Your line work and textures are KILLER. Great stuff. You ever throw some colors over these clean lines?

thanks for sharing.

Re: Ye Olde School Fantasy Art

Thank you for the kind words. I'm a big fan of Otus & Trampier from the AD&D era.

I recently started doing art again after not doing much for the last 10 years. I've only done one color piece since I've restarted doing art, but I'm not allowed to share it at this time.

I've been wanting to paint some stuff in acrylics, so I pulled out my old tub of art supplies from my closet. 10 years later, my paints were not in such great shape, to put it mildly. I intend to buy some more painting supplies, but I'm gonna wait until after I move. I don't want to buy a bunch of stuff a few weeks before I have to move my family across the country.

You could always go digital!

Although, I still have tons of my old paints and brushes, too.

Here's where Jason pipes in about the 40% OFF (anything in the store) coupon that's available bi-weekly from hobbylobby.com. Very useful for stocking up on paint sets and other expensive arty goodness.

Regarding the art, I know I've previously commented on it at DF or TLG, but I'll echo what David says above. Love those clean lines and textures!

Keep 'em coming.

Re: Ye Olde School Fantasy Art

Man, that's a cool deal, thanks for the info. Unfortunately, there isn't a Hobby Lobby (or much else) around these parts. Things should be different when I move, though.

Yeah, the price of art supplies is almost enough to tempt me to go digital, but I prefer to work with my hands. It is also nice having an original when you're done. Plus I have that whole "dinosaur" rep to maintain.

Re: Ye Olde School Fantasy Art

It has been a busy summer - a new child, a big move, etc., but I'm now situated to make more art.

I'm currently working on 7 full color illustrations for the upcoming OSRIC (1E) module FLA01: The Secret of the Summoning Chamber, by Fifty Latches Publishing. You can learn more about Fifty Latches publishing at their website http://blog.fiftylatches.com/

Here is the first pic in B&W:

And in living color:

This is the first painting I've done in over 10 years. This picture represents me - the artist, depicted as a fighter - walking into an art store, and being surprised at the big nasty prices for art supplies today (represented as bugbears). That fighter looks like a goner!

Man how paint prices have gone up over that time! It is almost enough to make me learn how to use a computer & go digital... nah.

Good to see you around again.

Killer stuff, as usual. Bugbears and gnolls were always some of my favorite in game critters.

Glad things are settling down for you enough to create again. Can't wait to see more.

Here is the cover picture for the upcoming Fifty Latches module:

Yup, that party is pretty much doomed.

I recently found one of my old sketchbooks. These are some #2 pencil & charcoal pencil drawings from 1998 & 1999. Back then, I was in college dreaming of becoming a rock star. I actually play guitar worse than I sing. Sigh.

Jimi Hendrix.

Mitch Mitchell (Jimi's drummer).

[

Sarah McLachlan collage. I used to have a thing for her, but she always acted like she never knew me. Her loss!

Jimi again.

Tom Waits. One weird looking dude. He'd fit right in as an Erol Otus D&D character.

Pencil always was my first love, but alas, only ink & full color are old school.
