[RPG]: The Quintessential Fighter, reviewed by C.W.Richeson (2/2)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/14/14295.phtml

Christopher W. Richeson's Summary:

With a variety of new options for the fighter class, Quintessential Fighter fails to live up to the standards of other 4E supplements on the market. Nevertheless, some worthwhile content can still be found inside.

I'm just half-way through your review's take on Chapter 2, and already I need to break-off my reading to congratulate you on a job well done!

I'm not saying you're right (I don't have the supplement) but a big kudos for thinking inside the 4E paradigm!

More reviewers should exhibit this kind of "design parameters awareness" - I like it!

Zapp

PS. I said above I didn't know if you're right. What I didn't say was that your review conveys a confidence that makes me believe you - it wouldn't surprise me one iota to learn that some 3PP simply haven't "got" 4E; what works and what doesn't. So I would be dishonest if I didn't confess I'm sure you're right...!

Question:

Like other Rituals, these require a Feat to access
I don't understand. You need Ritual Casting to cast rituals, right, so yes, you need a feat to access them? Why did you feel a need to mention this specifically - do you mean there's a separate Martial Ritual Casting feat in this book?

I suspected as much.

Now, because of the Bard-specific rituals, I guess we can't accuse the designer for not understanding every ritual's supposed to be usable by any character... but it doesn't mean we have to like it!

After all, the fighter can access the arcane rituals, the wizard can access the religion/heal rituals, so why shouldn't the cleric be able to access the fighter's rituals?
