[TRO Challenge] My new game-fu style is unbeatable!

What do people reckon? Time for another game-fu challenge? Click here to find out what that is if it sounds unfamiliar! (Thanks to Vitenka)

Here are links to the previous challenges, to give you an idea/remind you of what goes on.

TRO 5
TRO 4
TRO 3
TRO 2
TRO 1

If people want to do this again, we'll need contestants, judges, ideas for contest elements, and an idea of start/finish dates! Also, anyone that could provide hosting for submissions would be greatly appreciated.

I'll leave it at this until I see whether anyone else fancies this at the moment, but until then I'll be racking my brains for the most fiendish design elements I can come up with! *manic laughter*

Re: [TRO Challenge] My new style is unbeatable!

I'd be up for another go but I think the thread title needs (Game Fu) attached to it. Message the Mods and they'll do it for you.

Vitenka disappeared for the last one and Gavkin stepped up as the new head. He made a site that has all of the Game Fu stuff including #5 www.rpgnet.gavken.net .

I don't know if I'll be a judge or a contestant. Last time, I just couldn't find anything in the list that looked good but I trudged on anyway. The result suffered, as I just couldn't get interested until the last moment. I suppose we'll find out when the final list of ingredients comes down the pipe.

I'd participate in such an endeavor as a contestant, sounds like just the kick in the pants I need to finally write something!

I'd like to enter, as a contestant, and for the first time. :-)

Re: [TRO Challenge] My new game-fu style is unbeatable!

Groovy, got a few people wanting to compete so far. That being the case, I shall put myself forwards as judge jury and executioner.

As for ingredients categories, how about:
  • System constraints
  • Images (controversial, I know, but I still like this one)
  • Tagline (from a combination of two from a list, like last time)
  • Theme (might also be controversial...)

Then do we want an ingredient from each? One each from any 3 of the 4? And would people like to see a large number in each category, or to be more restrictive?

Let's get these terms settled, and then.... we FIGHT! ;D

Re: [TRO Challenge] My new game-fu style is unbeatable!

I read some entries from TRO 1 and TRO 5, and I'm having doubts as to what is being judged, as the categories are very different. So if someone could develop more on this, I'd appreciate it.

As one participating for the first time, how exactly are ingredients chosen? Do we chose them ouselves?

Also, before anything..., I'm Portuguese; although I like to think I speak and write fluent English, some mannerisms are bound to leap into the writting.

Re: [TRO Challenge] My new game-fu style is unbeatable!

Different judges have different things that they look for when judging the entries. Judges usually post a list of criteria as to what they are looking for an how they are marking the entries.

Ingredients are chosen by the Judge(s), although recently Judges have been taking suggestions from those interested for ideas. The ingredients are usually put into different categories and participants usually must pick a number of ingredients from the list and usually at least one from each category.

I will host entries again on my site but wont be judging this time as a number of people weren't keen on the ingredients last time. I may participate this if I have time to do so, though I wouldn't count on it.

Re: [TRO Challenge] My new game-fu style is unbeatable!

OK, what we do first is brainstorm a bunch of categories of ingredients, like the examples I've given above before settling on 3 or 4. We also need plenty of ideas for individual ingredients within each category too.

Then, based on a rough consensus of the people who want to take part (and my own personal whimsy, natch) we shall end up with a set of (most likely) 4 categories, each one a list of potential ingredients. Each entrant must then pick from these lists the elements they wish to design around - and post here to tell us, so that we can all start getting all enthusiastic at each other ;D - then await the strating pistol!

Judges will then each make a post laying out what their criteria for scoring will be - usually a combination of system, setting, originality, how well the challenge ingredients were dealt with. A start/finish date will be settled on, and the designing begins.

It is also generally appreciated when contestants keep us updated as to their ideas and progress in this thread.

*Edit: Thanks to Gavken for the hosting, and if you do have time to join in that would be super.*
*Moar edit: I'll aim to have some initial ingredients up by this evening.*
