Your Favourite Star Wars Movie?

Poll is coming...

What is your favourite Star Wars movie? (not the bext necessarily)

For me I think Return of the Jedi rocks. This goes back to when I watched them as a kid. Star Wars was great, Empire was great, but a bit dark and lacking in awesome moments, focusing more on a great story rather than individual scenes. But Jedi, now that has the Sarlac Pit, Luke in black and badass, huge space battles and best of all...

Darth Vader: You cannot hide forever, Luke.
Luke: I will not fight you.
Darth Vader: Give yourself to the Dark Side. It is the only way you can save your friends. Yes, your thoughts betray you. Your feelings for them are strong. Especially for... sister. So, you have a twin sister. Your feelings have now betrayed her, too. Obi-Wan was wise to hide her from me. Now his failure is complete. If you will not turn to the Dark Side... then perhaps she will...
Luke: [igniting light saber, screams] NO!

Followed by the best moment in cinema ever, the swelling music, Lightsabers flailing and pure visceral entertainment.

Edit: I have included the prequels in the poll as one option. However anyone voting for those are wrong and need to see a shrink.

Oh, come on. At least let people who are wrong be specifically wrong.

I'm not voting.

Dante Hicks: "Empire" had the better ending. Luke gets his hand cut off, finds out Vader is his father, uh, Han gets frozen, taken away by Boba Fett. It ends on such a down note. I mean, that's what life is, a series of down endings. All "Jedi" had was a bunch of Muppets.

Re: Your Favourite Star Wars Movie?

Voted for A New Hope. There's really no way to repeat experiencing something amazing for the first time, and I was six when it came out. Imprinted for life.

(I was thinking about whether it could be said to be able to stand on its own, but it really can't, if you're already aware of all that surrounds it. I loathe the whole "sequels never happened" meme. However, I note that in this case it would save Obi-wan from being an equivocating bastard.)

Re: Your Favourite Star Wars Movie?

Empire is the one I loved the most and my favourite scenes were the ones with the Falcon trying to evade the imperial fleet. I used to imagine that my room was part of the Falcon and that whenever I was in bed, I was actually squeezed into some tight compartment urgently repairing the hyperdrive and onboard sensors so.

I'm voting for the one that is funniest, saddest, and is burned forever into my mind, and yes, that is The Empire Strikes Back.

Re: Your Favourite Star Wars Movie?

Return of the Jedi, for the exact reasons the OP mentioned. Ewoks notwithstanding, it was the culmination of everything I ever wanted from Star Wars.

Nine minutes of RotJ space battle goodness.

It was also one of the best theater experiences I ever had. I've heard no shortage of fan bitching about RotJ in the intervening years, but when the Stormtroopers started running into the Ewok traps during the battle of Endor, the crowd went absolutely nuts.

The Battle of Hoth

The Millennium Falcon in the asteroid field

Darth Vader's revelation

"I love you."
"I know."

Yeah. No contest.

Kevin Smith has done more to ruin discussions of Star Wars movies than the prequels ever did.

Re: Your Favourite Star Wars Movie?

This might be rather petty of me, but I really enjoy murmuring the line, "Stand by, Ion Control. Fire." when it arrives.

Maybe because it was a woman who directing surface-to-orbit energy weapons? I don't know why, but I really like that line.
