    Staff Picks - Shadowrun Lite

On 7/25, The Wyzard announced in the Shadowrun Lite thread that he was planning to make it a "Staff Pick", and the title was changed. However, it did not get posted in the Staff Picks thread. I hoped a reminder might be helpful. Shadowrun Thread...

[7th Sea 2e] First session complete, thoughts

Re: [7thSea2e] First session complete, thoughts Sorry it didn't work out for y'all, but thanks for giving it a shot and reporting your results here!

[7th Sea 2e] First session complete, thoughts

Re: [7thSea2e] First session complete, thoughts. Have you considered applying more pressure to make sure the PCs can't "eat their cake and have it too"? My impression was that raises were intended to be a very resource-management intensive part of the game, that you should be running out of...

[Feng Shui] gm seeking epic campaign that would re-skin quickly to Feng Shui

Modern juncture. In this case, there wasn't a huge amount of cyber that mattered, so I just changed the "special effects" to be less futuristic and more in keeping with the modern juncture. Had it come up, though, I would have just reskinned some of the existing schticks. Remember that I was...

[Feng Shui] gm seeking epic campaign that would re-skin quickly to Feng Shui

Yeah, ShadowRun has re-skinned very nicely for me, as long as you are prepared for the tone change from stealth to action movie. I recently ran SR: Paradise Lost as a re-skin, and it played very smoothly. A lot of the places that SR can bog down get pacing help from the FS translation.

Modern Cyberpunk Games (prefer light to medium rules)

Headspace (kickstarter) is an RPG about a cyberpunk future that focuses mainly on the emotional tolls of being the best of the best, but fighting the powers that be, and being in some ways directly responsible for the dystopian state of the future. PCs all share an intra-team "network" that...

So... RPGnet compromised again, or is this a lingering effect of last breach?[Sort of both; details here]

Re: So... RPGnet compromised again, or is this a lingering effect of last breach? FYI, I have received notification that my old, defunct Skype account (linked here) was acceded and the password changed before the acct was suspended for suspicious activity. Just an FYI that offsite accounts are...

[Shadowrun] On-the-spot teaching of new players?

I'm planning to run some "show up and play" style games for a newly-opened game store in my area. The criteria I've set for the games is: 1) reasonable prep time (ideally < 4 hours prep for a 3 hour game) 2) easily sellable through the store (in print, in standard distribution channels) 3)...

playing really *HOT* characters (the kind you thought the other thread was about)

I'm reminded of an experience helping someone create a female knight character for Pendragon. One of the flaws of the Pendragon system is that attractiveness comes from the same pool of stats as other stats, but has no mechanical advantages. The player I was helping was frustrated that she...

    The worst campaign you've run

Re: the wost camphing you have run I've had a couple rough ones, and the worst were mostly investigative / conspiracy type games. (One reason I really like Gumshoe, now.) There was a conspiracy campaign where the gap between sessions proved to cause all unresolved clues from the previous...

    Night's Black Agents for Shadowrun

Thanks for the feedback! I'll try to see if I can browse through a copy of Mutant City Blues at my FLGS at some point. Are there any particular packages that stand out to you as more than a difficulty modifier? I tried to stat out a couple of the SR4A archetypes, just to see if there were any...

    Night's Black Agents for Shadowrun

I have been considering adapting NBA to run Shadowrun, since techno-thriller seems to be a nice fit with the SR themes and background. My intent is to use a very rules-light approach to modelling the more exotic parts of SR -- I'll let the cool stuff like cyber and the matrix mostly be visual...

[necro]GENCON 2015: Even Registration Goes Live Soon, Anyone Wanna Game?

Re: GENCON 2015: Even Registration Goes Live Soon, Anyone Wanna Game? Had a lot of fun, played lots of Shadows of Esteren and GUMSHOE games. It was really nice to be able to finally get back to GenCon after so many years away.

    [TORG] TORG Returns!

Just to clarify for the people arguing against my suggestions: my intention was for supplemental / alternate options when the cards were not handy. I would also like a card based option.

    [TORG] TORG Returns!

But put it into a free app, as well, if you can find a fan developer to help out for cheap. Making it accessible should be a priority. Another possible trick: card images on the corners of each page. Open to a random page (or roll a random page number, once people have unintentionally...

Most Difficult RPG To Actually Play

Lindsay McHenry used to have a rep around RPG.Net (a decade or so ago) as the only person who'd ever managed to run it as a successful campaign. I took it as a personal challenge, and managed to run a couple sessions... but never a campaign. high concept and very cool to think about, but...

[necro]GENCON 2015: Even Registration Goes Live Soon, Anyone Wanna Game?

Re: GENCON 2015: Even Registration Goes Live Soon, Anyone Wanna Game? Won't make it Wednesday (as I fly in Thursday afternoon), but I hope to see y'all around the convention. I'll be playing in several RPG-Netter friendly games, and visiting the Exhibit hall, so I may run into some of you...

Feelings on Moderation of Beast: The Primordial Threads [Answered]

Re: Feelings on Moderation of Beast: The Primordial Threads It is probably worth noting that the mods generally hand out thread bans relatively freely (compared to other sanctions), partially on the assumption that threads are not generally long-lived. Also that a thread ban is considered at...

    Obscure system appreciation day

Theatrix: massively ahead of its time with plot points, "distributed directing", descriptors, etc. In many ways the predecessor to Fudge / Fate. Also taught me the concept of mapping how actions fail to skill level: in narratives, competent people fail because of bad luck or circumstances...
