King Hellfire

Just finished a blindingly good book which dripped with CF campaign ideas from every page!

It's A Great and Terrible King: Edward I and the Forging of Britain, by Marc Morris. It's got wars, peace, conquest, politics, treachery and even William Wallace...

It also hammers home how expensive medieval warfare can be. I hope the economics of raising an army find their way into the supplement when it comes!

They were depicted in the Bayeux tapestry as weilding their axes left-handed, which has led some to believe that they trained that way to gain an advantage over their opponents.

(BTW, I thought that huscarls were not part of the Anglo-Saxon fyrd.)
Aren't they? I've seen fyrd sometimes defined as militia and sometimes defined as a standing army. I'll look into this further.
