[COH] The City of Heroes Legacy Megathread - Part 2 [READ REDTEXT IN POST #1]

I saw a table with number of players on blue and on red. Since I had no takers for Death from Below while I was playing on CoV, seems like team-ups are easier to find on blue? Granted, my sample size is tiny.
Yes. Heroes are WAY more popular than villains. Good will triumph because evil is uncool. :D

(And the PvP zones are ghost towns.)

Hero-*side*, anyway. There's no shortage of spike and skull-encrusted "xXx_KiLLiNAT0R420_xXx" types running around Atlas Park stopping purse snatchings.

Also, with Null the Gull's help, it's super easy to switch between sides, or just to jump right to one of the "in between" alignments who can access both sides without issue. So the percentage of villains is likely even lower than on live but the number of people with easy access to redside content is essentially 100% (if they feel like switching)

Man, looking at the issue list brings me back. I looked up the patch dates on a wiki.

For some reason I felt like I came in really late. People were already playing this game, and I watched someone play and decided to give it a go. Since I had been playing a while before they added capes and auras, I guess I started playing July 2004. Man, I wasn’t even married then.

And I found where I stopped playing. It was after Issue 11. The new location I was thinking about was Ouroboros. I remember the Flashback system. The next issue was half a year later, so it’s hard to pinpoint when I gave up the game. I just remembered doing missions half-heartedly, and even the new location of Ouroboros just didn’t excite me. I was officially burned out. I realized that I was paying a monthly fee for a game that I barely touched, and when I went 2 months without logging in, I knew I had to cancel. So I’m going to guess I canceled in January 2008 since I had to get to the point where I went so long without interaction.

And looking at the subsequent issues, I see NCSoft did a pretty good job of expanding their content. Obviously it wasn’t enough to keep me invested, and I honestly can’t remember if I knew that it went free or not. I’d have to imagine that I would’ve at least gone back to see my old characters if I knew about it. Although looking at the timeline, I may have been playing Champions Online and was playing on a “lifetime” account, so even if I did know that CoX was free, I may have bought into the sunk-cost fallacy of CO. And honestly, aside from the free travel power you start with, I don’t know that CO was really better than CoX anyway. It did have some cool things like the nemesis feature.

So yeah, it’s been over 10 years since I played CoX, and it shows. Many things have come back to me. For example, my muscle memory is still strong for Hold on 2, Heal on 5, and Mass Hold on 6. That shit’s burned into my brain. But I had a pretty good 3 years of solid play. I feel so out of sorts now; meanwhile I’m seeing all manner of acronyms and abbreviations from people who not only have gotten used to this incarnation but probably picked up right where they left off when the game shut down in 2012.

So much feels.

Kai and friendly memetic parasite pal MIL0 teach the Warriors that Burst + Propel = a lot of dudebros suddenly pondering their poor life choices. XD

New patch notes!

I do like the sniper changes. Also this:
  • Earth Control > Animate Stone: should no longer stop to reconsider it's life choices for about 6 seconds after using Hurl.
Huh. I'm going to have to see how this works with my Beam/Devices blaster.

Not really sure the changes to Time Bomb make it any more worthwhile, though. I'd have liked to see something more like the Crab's Omega Maneuver, which pulls enemies toward it and then blows up.

Slow Time Bomb is pretty useless on teams, but fairly effective for helping a squishy solo blaster take down some tougher bosses. What this does is make it possible to blow things up with other people around. I'd argue that this makes Time Bomb more useful than Trip Mine.

Fun screen of the day: The Ghostbusters. XD

These three are probably the single weirdest static trio in our entire crew...

That's Nexium, the exiled Black Knight (Staff Scrap)...
His bestie Semnai, a Circle Thorn Wielder (Broadsword Brute)...
... and Ebon Infinity, the living incarnation of the concept of Darkness (Engery Blast Sentinel and Nex's would-be girlfriend)

As odd-ball as the characters are... Nex and Sem are prone to (very) risqué jokes and (very) bad puns, and all three tease each other relentlessly... The AT and power set combinations work really, really well. Once we got Ebon's knockback under control, Sem's ability to gather mobs into tight bunches and all three's combined AoEs are becoming something of a nightmare for anything in their path.

I swear whatever they did in the last patch must have caused a random if annoying memory leak. Not to mention it takes a LOT of tries to get the damned game to boot up on the right graphics card for me too. Either way, it's been almost unplayable at times. :(
