[Elite Dangerous] Transmissions From A New Commander

This PvE group/thing seems intresting, thanks.

I'm mostly a solo/slow player, and my time to game is very limited, so I'll probably be just moving the ships in the (already checked) gorgeous graphics for a while, until suddenly family leaves for a week and I find myself deep in space troubles
As mentioned there's a new "safe sector" to tool around in and take missions focused on teaching gameplay mechanics. Make sure you pick Dromi as your starting system for your commander if you want to try it.

Has the mission balance changed significantly lately? On a whim I've been dipping in again (Elite is glorious in VR) and I managed to make several millions in a couple of hours by hauling medicine to a system suffering from an outbreak.

Could I have just done that sort of thing all along?

Yes. Once you read the wiki on how system states work, you can turn quite a lucrative profit.

This is my standard datadump I give to any newbie who's shown up on the reddit. Not sure if it will be at all useful for you though.

I actually prefer the Exodus Coalition's Pilot's guide. https://www.exowing.com/pilots-guide.html

Some other links that may be of use in your future flight sir:
https://coriolis.io/ (ship builder/loadout designer)
https://eddb.io/ (the indispensable tool for finding where to trade and what's going on in the galaxy)
https://www.edsm.net/ (the exploration and siting tool, as well as some nice cheevos)
https://github.com/EDDiscovery/EDDiscovery/releases (the tool that uploads your flight log so you can help other commanders with what you learn)
http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Elite_Dangerous_Wiki (an insanely detailed wiki)

And don't head to hutton orbital for a free anaconda, that's a hazing ritual. Head there because that's a personal challenge and a rite of passage. Also, bring some cargo space, those mugs sell good!

Update: I completed Distant Worlds 2 and am now wandering about the far side of the Milky Way, approximately 65,000 light years from Sol. That's gonna be a long walk home.

Update: I took a break for a month or so, but now I've reached Explorer's Anchorage in the centre of the galaxy and I'm about to cash in my Distant Worlds 2 exploration data. Remember this number; 689,657,086 CR my current balance...
...20 minutes later, my balance is 1,423,382,658 CR for a profit of 733,725,572 CR, and now I'm a billionaire. Huh, that's actually a lot less than I expected. Oh, wait, the last time I was here I cashed in, so this is only the total for the trip to and from Sag A* and Beagle Point.

Anyway, I can now fly a little more recklessly now I cashed that in. Maybe I'll head to Colonia for the other engineers.

Be warned that there is currently . . . I dunno, I'd say a small-but-noteworthy amount of dramaz going on in Colonia, mainly Carcosa but I've seen a bit of spillover elsewhere.

Uhhh, other players and their schemes... that looks like an Playing In Open problem. I'm playing in Fleetcom just now, and I'll switch back to Mobius when I get back to the Bubble. Yeah, you've convinced me, I'll head back to the bubble just now and head out to Colonia later in the year. I'm getting kinda sick of piloting the Anaconda anyway, I want to be able to TURN when I'm flying.

I'll say this: you could probably just poke your nose in there in not-Open and be fine, right? One thing that the dramaz has accomplished is that there's a TON more development in Carcosa than you'd expect, in terms of ship and module availability. And I think the Colonia Engineers are very leveled up these days. Uh, I think--I haven't tested that, but it's been mentioned.

So. Lately, I've been sticking to mining, mainly the big-ticket items like Void Opals, Low-Temp Diamonds, Alexandrite, et cetera.

After my latest session netted several million credits worth of VOs and LTDs, I now have over a billion credits in my bank account.

So... now what? Part of me wants to just put on some bling and go "I won, bitches!" but then again there's so much more in the game.

Ideas?

(Also, damn I wish RL money was as easy to get a vidya game money. :p )

EDIT: Almost forgot, if you want I can write up a How To Mine Void Opals guide and post it here.
