• Regarding the COV-19 virus and its effects:

Things are frustrating, and confusing, and scary. People dream up conspiracy theories to help make sense of things. They're not helpful, though, and only serve to make the world more confusing and scarier.

We're not going to have that here. If there's new information to be shared, share it, but cite your information to a reputable source. And we swear to God, if anyone comes in here and starts spouting off QAnon bullshit about COVID-19 or literally anything else, you are going to get permabanned so thoroughly that your grandchildren won't be allowed to post here.

Not enamored at all of the new Exalt types I've seen. I don't find the game any better balanced overall. The new mechanics seem all over the place and are just shy of Rifts in terms of lacking a unified mechanic to resolve subsystems.

Most important to the game I'm currently running is it will not do what 2nd Edition will for the story.

I was considering maybe for future stories, but, in the end, it simply isn't my cup of tea anymore. I haven't agreed with most of the design ideas, and project management, since it was announced and wasn't an Ink Monkey fan before that for mostly fluff reasons (I really... really don't like the Magnus and it gives me a chuckle that one of the charms I dislike the most in the new version carries his name). If other people like it, that's cool and I hope they have a lot of fun, but it's not my thing anymore.

...and the combat system reminded me far, far too much of Anima Prime, only implemented in the strangest way possible considering Anima Prime is unabashedly narrativist and I honestly can't figure out if that's what Ex3 was going for or not. I think Anima Prime did it better and the systems are just too close for artistic comfort for me. Again, all personal stuff in a - thread. For the people who love the new game, have fun with it and more power to you.

Because that would swing things the other way and everyone would just have a bunch of 3s except in one attribute.
...really no. A 3 in a random stat is less useful than a 4 in the thing you roll all the time. It would also, incidentally, need to be paired with more dots.

See... let us assume that 4/4/3 and 5/3/3 are desirable. Before, this requires 8 dots. Now, it requires 10. So Primary is now 10 dots. 5/5/1 now costs 12 dots and is too expensive; the best you can manage is 5/4/1. SUCCESSFULLY DISCOURAGED! (buying to 5/5/3 from 5/3/3 costs 9x, from 5/4/1 costs 10x). Or you can hand out 12 dots and people can play 4/4/4 and 5/4/3.

Now Secondaries. Before, you could do 5/2/2 or 5/3/1; we can peg this as the benchmark, giving out 8 dots and allowing for a 4/3/3 Secondary.

Finally, Tertiary. Before, you could do 5/1/1; pegged as a benchmark, you now hand out 6 dots, making 3/3/3 an option.

Oooh, while we're actively brainstorming (just to show how easy it is to come up with alternatives): why not steal from D&D 4e? Character Creation works the same as before, except a character may not have more than one '1' on their sheet. It's basically the rule of thumb most ST's I've met use ANYWAY, why not make it a rule?

I wonder, since the negative attitude towards starting points/bp/xp differences should be well-known to the developers, whether it wouldn't be worth it to waste half a page on giving an official alternate rule, just to, you know, placate the multitudes.

I don't think it would even need half a page, would it? Just 'an alternate: give all starting characters <X> XP. See page <YY> for XP costs.' It might need a little more detail, but seems more like a sidebar, rather than a page!

We have a policy not to give people bad rules just because they think they want them.

Huh. Good to know that I clearly don't know what I want, and all those problems I've had in the past with linear build quadratic xp never actually happened.
