she's not gratuitously showing off cleavage, just because. Heck, she's not really showing off skin in general, it's a pretty sensible ensemble for a warrior, barring the top part of the chest.
Uh.

Exposed midriff, no clothing underneath the armor (mm, chafing!), heels. Charlotta and Bridgette at least look like Saber knock-offs.

I take it the English release is iOS only? I checked the Android store, and the only version there is completely in Japanese (at least the entry is), and my phone can't run it.

So I have been tangrntially interested in trying Granblue out and this thread finally gave me incentive to try since the Chrome app is pretty nice. Managed to luck into a Charlotta during the premium gala but not much else to top the story characters. (I am assuming an SR story char is better than a R gatcha guy here)

Is there a good rule of thumb for what to do? There just seems to be so much stuff between dailies, events, and the quests.

Also should I be saving any future crystals for the next Premium Gala or are there other times when the gatcha is worth using?

That's the SSR Version. I'm talking about her normal, SR Version. I did forget about her heels, but she's still better then about 99% of every other female warrior in anime style series.

Story SR's tend to be a little subpar compared to other SRs, but are still better then Rs. The only Story character that tends to get used a lot in later stages is Katalina.

For the most part, you want to save your crystals for the premium gala, and to always use them for a 10-draw. That said, you will want at least one weapon cache. You will use this to store weapons you dont want in your active pools. This will mostly be weapons with weapon skills, and certain other bits of equipment. This isnt an immediate priority, but it's something you'll want sooner rather then later. Later, you'll want to expand how many slots you'll have for your main storage but that can wait a bit.

Yeah, it can throw a lot of stuff at you at once. For starters, you want to clear some of your story mode. You'll rank up fairly fast so it can keep you busy for a while, and it will unlock certain things you'll need later. (Magna/Omega Raids, Guild Access, certain other functions) It's also generally recommended you beeline to the Dark Fencer class. It is the best soloing class in the game, and will server you in good stead for quite a while.

Your immediate goal should be trying to get your weapon pools in order and to replace all your R weapons with SR weapons. This is admittedly easier said then done. Events are a good way to get started on this. The current running event has Light and Dark based weapons as rewards. Recently introduced is a series of rotating events in the Special Quests section (Hit Quests and then Special). These are based on old events and rotate to a new element every few days, and are also a good way to get early SRs. Try to aim for any weapon with an Atk Up skill. The other major way you will receive SR weapons is through the Primordial raids. Each of the first six island bosses is also a raid boss. Whether you started the raid, or joined one in progress, you will want to defeat these bosses. The ones to shoot for are the Magna/Omega raids. These actually have a chance to drop SSR weapons and Summons and are fairly common goals for weapon sets.

The Droid release requires some anti-region lock shenanigans to get going, yes. That said, there's a Chrome App version that isnt region locked and runs fine. You can also run it directly through Chrome these days.

Download QooApp, then use QooApp to download GBF. Note that you really shouldn't be playing GBF via the app, it runs like shit - you really only want it if you're planning on ever spending real money on the game (since paying via Google Play Wallet is much easier). Just use the web browser versions of the game to actually play.

In the very long run, characters don't matter all that much - at least, not nearly as much as your weapon pool. There's at least one video up on Youtube of someone soloing a Magna raid boss with an all-Rare party.

Early on? Power through quests and sidequests for crystals, try your hand at the event stuff, and dump untold hours on the casino for casino chips because you can actually buy some decent things at the casino (e.g. your monthly allotment of 100 half pots).

Also should I be saving any future crystals for the next Premium Gala or are there other times when the gatcha is worth using?
Rule of thumb is unless you really know better, only ever gacha during legfest. If there's a draw event that boosts the rate for a character you want (e.g. new character release, or a Star Premium Draw that boosts rates for specific character classes), then you can also consider drawing during that period, but only if you're 100% sure that you really want the rate-boosted character(s).

Despite my faint praise for the game earlier, I'm still playing it for a couple hours every evening, so I can't deny there's something addictive about it. :)

Since it seems like there's at least one other new player in this thread, and I've gotten to the point where the game is pointing me at making or joining one, is there any interest in making a crew (which I'm assuming is Granblue's version of a guild) for those of us starting out?

Is there a guide for the Google Chrome app so players who can't read Japanese can make their way through the app?

EDIT: Never mind - I found the language select option.

Having just finished the Robomi story events...
There was not a single thing in that I didnt enjoy. I about lost it when Mecha Godzilla showed up.
Also, the sprite work on Shiro/Nick is just amazing all around.

I would be up for joining an RPG.net crew, although I'm not sure how helpful I'd be :p just sitting on that panel in the cheevos page now.

Thanks for the guides! Currently leeching the Robomi raids hard in the hope of lucking into some of the SSR gear, while whacking on the story some more.
