I miss Buffy

I miss Buffy too. I miss all the little genre twists, and setting quirks that made the show so endearing to me.

Mostly, I just miss Vampire Willow. Mmmmm, Vampire Willow ....

I miss it to. In fact, I miss Whedon on TV in general. Hard to believe that back in 2002 we briefly had three Whedon shows on at the same time! Since 2004 all we've had of his on TV was Dollhouse, a show that was both hugely ambitious and deeply flawed.

I don't want Whedon making big-screen comic book movies (even though I'm happy for him). I want the buffyverse back on TV!

(Yes, I'm fully aware that you can't go home again. But I'd kill for a Ripper TV series, or something else set in that universe.)

SE, if you don't mind reading to scratch that itch, give a gander over at Lonely Werewolf Girl by Martin Millar. It's youthful, witty and I love Millar's characters. (and seriously, what's not to love when one character is a werewolf fanshionista)
and according to Millar, there are talks of a movie version

In a not quite related thought: I was re-watching Veronica Mars recently, and I pictured an alternate TV reality where Buffy Summers was played by Kristen Bell instead of Sarah Michelle Gellar. It was a happy place indeed.
That is so awesome. I can't stop picturing this now that you mentioned it and it's not even that I disliked SMG as Buffy although she was my least favorite amongst the Scooby gang.

Anyways I think between Supernatural and Chuck it's kind of scratching that itch but I do miss it being all in one show.

What I want from the Buffyverse: a group of low level warlocks, demons, tricksters and half breeds who work the magical underground, steal rare artifacts or secrets, find lost people or work spells for payment. Basically, they're cyberpunk shadowrunners trying to make a buck and survive, and all of them have a past.

But they're a family. They work together against the odds, and since Joss is writing it, the character dynamics are awesome.

It won't happen as long as we have TRUE BLOOD, it's TWILIGHT with porn.
It really isn't, and it saddens me to hear someone who misses Buffy misrepresenting it in such a ridiculous fashion. Did you ever even watch it? What about Twilight? If you didn't watch both, you can hardly make that claim, can you?

The True Blood books are certainly akin to Twilight, but not the TV show.

Personally, I miss Buffy too. There's nothing on that's quite like how it was, pre-season 5 particularly. There are lot of pretty decent kind of gritty growl-y sort of shows (like SG:U) around at the moment, but there's nothing like Buffy that manages to light-hearted and young and funny yet to also have serious moments. I'd take a sci-fi Buffy, or even a real-world one, but they're just not out there.

And yeah, bring out the kerosene if they ever try to make a "growl-y gritty remake" of Buffy.

Edit - You know what's REALLY SAD - thing closest thing, I feel, that we have to Buffy on TV these days is something like Merlin. Which is kind of a terrible show and aimed more at kids than Buffy ever was, but at least has some of that feel. Maybe it's just Anthony Stewart-Head confusing me, but I think there's a little more to it.

I think one of the main reasons I can't stand Merlin, is ASH's portrayal of Uther. He's just such an ass. I guess that may be a testament to his acting chops.

But I miss Giles. :(

Really? I think he does a pretty good job of selling the total cockish-ness of Uther, so much so that he's totally fun to watch even as you're thinking "What a cock!".

I miss Giles too though :(

Well, damn, I'd watch that too. I guess I'm an easy sell :).

Okay, let me clarify: TRUE BLOOD isn't Twilight with porn, exactly. What I meant by that was merely that it focuses on romance over social commentary, which makes it harder to relate to ones' own life. I like the show, though.
