This is the DJ, coming at you from PBTA, station 1977, blasting out the truth to the City at 50000Watts. I hear you out there brothers and sisters, clamouring for justice, or fame, or redemption, or seeking to live lives of honour, or maybe you want that oh so valuable of all commodities, the truth.

And that is what the DJ will give you brothers and sisters, the truth, at least as far as I know it, can ya dig?

Now there was a cat, long time back, called the Buddha, and this cat said if you want things, you are going to suffer. That’s the fact of deal my friends, y’all gonna suffer, least a little. Maybe you’re gonna lose something precious, or maybe ya just gonna get punched in the face, all on the path to Enlightenment. But at least you’ll be living lives of excitement!

It’s a sweltering hot night out there brothers and sisters. My voice is mixing with the distant rumbling of thunder, and while there is a crazy moon out, you can’t see it for all those thick clouds.

Those thick clouds that are promising rain, promising relief from this heat wave that’s been kicking our ass like it was the Man. But we all know what promises are worth, don’t we?

So stay safe out there, in the crazy city, and if if you can’t stay safe, well, the DJs got a little music for ya.

Use sblock tags for any OOC talk in the thread

Introduce your characters either IC or OCC, provide stats in sblocks with your post.
You could do your introduction as a letter or call to the DJ. ‘Hello DJ, first time caller, long time listener, I’m……. and I got trouble…. and could you play ……. for me?’

Questions to get started on
Johnny Lee, which ganger just stole your favourite hat off your head?
Johnny Lee, what is it that sets this gang apart from others?

Dusty, what aspect of the gang’s hideout seemed the strangest to you?
Dusty, what vehicle did the gang use in the kidnapping to get away from you earlier?

Dwight, who is the person in this room that is going to make you work at your ‘don’t kill’ people policy and why?
Dwight, how did you know know the secret way into the gang’s hideout?

Scarlett, what’s your connection to this gang?
Scarlett, what is the piece of musical history in this room that you want to save?

Murphy, who was it that the gang kidnapped that you are going to do your best to save?
Murphy, contrariwise, who did the gang kidnap that you’d rather did not make it out this alive?

While we all know the 70s was full of racism and sexism and all kinds of other isms, let's try to avoid that in our posts. We can allude to it, especially if it is the Man coming down with all those isms, but let's not post anything that is going to make anyone uncomfortable or be offensive.

I am actually not worried about it with this group, but it never hurts to put it in words.

Dusty Rhodes:

The city's crazy. People walkin' 'round not even lookin' each other in the face. No 'Hello' or 'Hey'. Too busy to greet your fellow man? Craziness. Dusty drove through traffic noddin' and wavin' at people he saw truggin' through early mornin' traffic. Dusty turns up Jerry Reed's Lightning Rod and revs 'Dolly Ma'am's' engine as he draws a Lucky Strike from his pocket.

After a few hours, Dusty reaches the downtown HQ for the group he's all too familiar with and raises his eyebrows at the posters of half-nude women displayed across the area. As he brings 'Dolly Ma'am' to a stop in the parking spot, Dusty Rhodes remembers the funny lookin' fella he met in a Sambo's diner two states away and two years back. He was a strugglin' musician Dusty felt sorry for, so he sung the boy a song Dusty recalled from his mamma singin'. Dusty popped open the truck door singin' the song ...

"Don't go changin' to try an' please me, you never let me down before,
I don't imagine you're too familiar, and I don't see you anymore,
I would not leave you in times of trouble, we never could have come this far,
I took the good times, I'll take the bad times, I'll take you just the wa-"

"Heeeyyy, McClane! How's it hangin', brother? Yall track down that Buick Skyhawk them bandits ran off with? We need to get them people back to their families, yall ... if we'd a went in shootin' like I said, weren't be this problem. Pappy Fisher always said, 'a gun's the best negotiation' ..."

Murphy McClane

"Son, you didn't see them rifles on the rooftop. When it looks and smells like an ambush, you gotta back off and try again some other day. We'll find 'em and track thenm down. Once we do, I figure they keepin' them cats in the basement, where they can just lock 'em up and not have to worry about them causing any ruckus. We ain't blastin' our way through all 'em on their home turf -- learned that the hard way Over There. I'm thinkin' we'll need some special concoction to make an alternate entrance."

"I'm still looking for this car of yours, but that ain't really my thing. I passed it on to that Johnny Lee guy -- he's a Red, so I'd rather he be chasing down this car then nuclear secrets -- and he should be comin' by any minute now."

"We still gotta find us a bit of muscle, though. Jackpot if they like animals. Who's that you said you got? Also, you gonna need a bigger vehicle; me and Bandit ain't riding in the back with three lions. Or even just two; that one with the pug nose was eyein' me funny. We can leave that one behind."

Remember, I ask questions and I use the answers, and I play to find out.
I had thought this would start in the middle of things, and most of my questions were geared to that, but I did not make it clear, so that's my fault.

I don't know anything about the gang's hide out.
Dusty, what aspect of the gang’s hideout seemed the strangest to you?

I know they used a Buick Skyhawk. I assume that's a vehicle Dusty wants to get into a chase with.

I don't know anything about who the gang kidnapped.
Murphy, who was it that the gang kidnapped that you are going to do your best to save?
Murphy, contrariwise, who did the gang kidnap that you’d rather did not make it out this alive?

You can answer OOC in sblocks, that's fine.

And put your character stats up in sblocks too so they are handy near the start of the thread.

I answered this. The gang kidnapped three lions (from a local zoo, I suppose). If this doesn't work for you, I guess we can include a couple of park employees as well.

Lions are fine. I was just reading that as that you had the lions with you (which I was curious about) not that you needed to rescue them which was where my confusion lay.

Hey DJ, this is Dwight and I just want to say that this radio 'station' thing is far out, if a bit primitive. Anyhow, I'm thinking about a woman I lost to the city when I first got here. She's gone now, and I miss her so much. Could you play a song I heard just the other day. It was "Born to Run" by Bruce Springsteen. It will help me remember what I need to do?"

Dwight looked down at the gang hideout from the building next door. He was always amazed at how no one in this city ever looked up. For this reason, he always found the rooftops to be the best place to scout out targets. Unfortunately, this gang seemed better prepared than most and had a guy with a rifle on the roof. Still, the sniper was too busy looking at the ground to even notice him. Why was everyone so busy looking at the ground in this day and age? It would be an 'easy' 6 foot jump to the other roof, subdue the sniper and gain access into the gang's hideout.

That's when things would get tricky, Dwight thought. He was pretty sure the Gutter was inside: the man who had killed Barry, the old homeless man they first discovered and had helped them out when they first arrived to this strange and dirty world. The Gutter would surely have the same large knife he had used to kill Barry on him. If he drew it on Dwight, would Dwight have enough control not to vaporize him?

Dwight, who is the person in this room that is going to make you work at your ‘don’t kill’ people policy and why?
Dwight, how did you know know the secret way into the gang’s hideout?
Spoiler: Show
The quick and easy answers to your questions are the Gutter, a large man with a large knife and Dwight likes to hang out on rooftops and quickly noticed the sniper (previously established I think) and figured the roof must have easy access into the hideout. I thought about waiting until the gang and hideout's MO were established, but that might drag too much. Plus my answers are generic enough that they can fit a wide range of scenarios.

Name: Dwight Nine
Role: The Vigilante
Style: Black turtle-neck shirt with silver peace symbol sewn on upper right side; silver lamé pants and moon boots; youthful perfect complexion, short curly hair, haunted eyes.
Story: X-Tech
X-Tech Expert: When working with X-Tech, roll with Something Extra.
Prototype Gun
Motivation: In a world gone mad, Dwight Nine is looking for Redemption.

Background:
Hundreds of years into the future, Dwight was a “peace officer” in charge of executing those 29 year olds who had not been selected by the lottery for eternal life. Thanks to the efforts of Michelle Twelve, a programmer, he realized the whole system was all just a big scam. No one got the lottery and lived past 30.

Dwight and Michelle escaped the domed cities and made their way through the wastelands, pursued by Dwight’s former best friend, Frederick Four, and other Peace Officers. After escaping an ambush, Dwight and Michelle found themselves in a cave with strange energies, and were transported back in time. They discovered that the ‘70s are anything but friendly. Michelle was killed by some drug dealers, who also killed Barry, an old homeless man the two had befriended.

Dwight has vowed to make the drug dealers and others who shorten the lives of others pay for their actions, and to save as many young people from their doom as possible. He works alone as a vigilante because he know the “Man” can’t be trusted (just like he couldn’t be trusted when he was in power).

Moves:
It’s All in the Reflexes: When you use a gun to solve a problem or overcome an obstacle, roll with Something Extra.

Eagle Eye: When you take time to study and observe your target, Roll +Brains.
On a 10+ you identify a weakness and deal +1 harm against that target for the rest of the Scene.
On a 7-9, you spot a weakness but will need to expose yourself or someone else to danger in order to exploit it.

Wake-Up Call: When you fire a warning shot to get your target’s attention, Roll +Hustle.
On a 10+ they stop what they’re doing (fleeing, fighting etc.) and are shaken, roll with Something Extra on your next move.

Stats:

• Might +1
• Hustle +2
• Smooth -1
• Brains +1
• Soul +1

Gear:
$50
Outfit
Primary Firearm—Signature Weapon Prototype (see below).
Secondary Weapon—Many throwing knives (1-harm hand/close infinite concealed).

Thang:

Peace Blaster—Signature Weapon, equivalent to a Magnum (3-harm, close, reload, loud, added concealed trait), also X-Tech Prototype, equivalent to Knockout Gas, fires a sleep gas that can render a target incapacitated for the duration of a Scene.

Hooks:

• Murphy McLane knows something I need.
• Johny Lee is my best ally in my efforts.
• I need to act as Screamin’ Scarlett’s protector.

Other than some confusion on my part, it all looks good
Don't worry if characters seem in different places or in different time slices. Jump in where you want and we'll figure out what parts were flashbacks later :)

Perhaps another thing Dwight could appreciate was the fact that up high there was at least a little breeze, welcome relief from the sweltering heat on the streets. Far off thunder rumbled and dogs howled. Maybe he heard the cry of a lion.

On the roof across from him the sniper played with a cheap transistor radio. The crackling. tinny sound of 'Born to Run' started playing.

Spoiler: Show

So Dwight, if you want to leap across the roofs and subdue the sniper, roll Keep You Cool + Hustle

Johnny Lee

Hello, Mr. DJ. I would appreciate the chance to pass along a message, if the would be alright.

This message goes out to the young man in the leather vest with the phrase 'Nuclear Arsenal' written along the back. Mr. Arsenal, if you are listening, I would ask you, politely, to please return my hat.

This will be the only request.

Thank you, DJ, for your time.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Hello, Mr. McClane," Johnny Lee says, seeming to appear as if from nowhere. "Interesting day," he says, rubbing his bald head with one hand, drawing attention to his own hatlessness before adjusting his black-rimmed glasses.
"Our friends, as it turns out, are members of the Atomic Killers," Johnny said throwing an Atomic Killers patch on a table, a mushroom cloud over a radiation symbol. "Melee weapon of choice - baseball bats." Johnny cracked his neck dramatically, "Not particularly good with them."
"And, my apologies for correcting you, Mr. McClane, but I am from Hong Kong and, therefore, not a Red. Though I do understand the confusion."
