My laugh-out-loud moment of the episode.Couple #3:
Bodybuilder: "Baby, love is a battlefield!"
Babe: /big hammer. WHAM. "I'm leaving you."
...My wince moment of the episode.Enter five gorgeous hunks of impeccably dressed beefcake.
Aaaaand my laugh-out-loud moment of the review.Mako: "Maybe it is your fault, Moon. Have you tried a royal proclamation, granting us new powers?"
Usagi: "Sorry, I can't proclamate without a throne."
Mina: "There's pills for that."
Confession: I totally made the "trouble in paradise" comments so you would notice and then set yourself up for this.Usagi: "GAAAAHHHH! Dammit, Mako! I thought you were over this! And you're both gir—I can't even say that with a straight face. Girls! Ami! Remember Ami? Wait, no, I don't actually know what's up with you two any more, this is the problem with behind-the-scenes stuff no one talks about, maybe it doesn't matter. Aha! Haruka's dating another girl. There we go. She's dating another… Mako? MAKO!"
And it's indeed not like that at all. This is a masterful swerve by the writers here : both our heroines and we the audience think this is another instance of Makoto's crush on anything vaguely resembling her old flame, but it looks like she has grown beyond that by now. Well played, sirs.Mako: /laughs nervously. "What? No! It's not like that! Not at all!"
Mako: "It's not!"
Gratuitous ass shot !Michiru gets out of the pool
Okay, this annoyed me a lot. Why make such a big show last episode of Kaolinite revealing herself if our heroines can pass by her on the street without recognizing her ? Seriously, WTF ?Usagi: "Excuse us, Miss! Sorry, my friend is twitterpated."
Kaolinite: /steps aside to let them pass.
Kaolinite, using half-decent tactics ? Wait, what ?Kaolinite: "Already?! Jeez, they're fast. Scar, retreat!" /vanishes.
And this basically sums up Uranus & Neptune's conundrum here : this is a crisis that cannot be solved without the sacrifice of innocent lives, and they guess that our heroines won't stand for that. U & N don't like it either, but it has to be done. Otherwise the bad guys win.Michiru: "Why don't we just tell those other Sailors everything and join forces? It's obvious they want to save the world, too."
Haruka: "But do you really think those kids can make the necessary sacrifice?"
Remember Episode #92, when we talked about how Haruka couldn't possibly the owner of the daimon-car ?• Baby You Can Drive My Car
A sleek yellow convertible pulls up next to them. Haruka is driving, Michiru is shotgun.
Clearly Uranus & Neptune are assholes. They purposefully waited until Haruka and Michiru were thrown away before getting out of wherever they were hiding. Haruka got hurt because of them !Mako: /notices Haruka's wound, and quickly bandages it with the scarf.
Haruka sure seems to be better at driving when it's just a game.A speeding motorcyclist nearly runs them down!
And the scene gets the whole sparkles-and-faded-colours treatment too. In hindsight, the viewer is being as misled as Usagi here.Haruka takes Makoto's hand.
I admit, I didn't get that one until Makoto explained it later.Scar: "My mistress shall east upon your resh pure heart."
Scar: "…I can't say 'f.'"
And now we know how the team reacts to an enemy who doesn't attack them immediately: let it get away uncontested.Scar: /laughs maniacally and ninja-leaps away, running creepily.
• Battle is… Over, Apparently.
Upon rewatching the episode, I was surprised to see that Haruka was really needed a moment to come up with a convincing explanation there.Haruka: "Er, um, uh… I got my license overseas?"
How ARE you going to handle this? I can't really tell from this episode.Ami: "Look, let's just suck up the alternate continuity and roll with it."
The exaggerated expressions here are really hilarious.Usagi: "From the lady photobook magazines I found under your b—"
Rei: /snatches them away. "¡Aya! ¡A little privacy!"
Ohh, that's a cute one! Don't kill that one! Kaolinite really knows how to pick them.
Scar: " you! Now all the el anboys will come out o the woodwork!"
Poor Scar.Kaolinite: "Yes, that's right, Nipple, damn it! No more tip-toeing around the issue! We're just going to do this the direct way!"
Scar: "This is why I insisted on a mask…"
Of course! You can only get taken out all at once because you bunched up tightly so many times before you learn, right? Right?Ami and Usagi are not grappled because the team is actually using tactics this time![/font]
Hmm, I might need to pay attention to see whether or not her style actually changes from this episode on. Also, this episode had a sad lack of the Professor. But Ami spots Mako shopping by herself in a clothing store—trying out a new, more confident look. Complete with dashing lavender scarf. Mako assumes some heroic poses before the mirror, blows a kiss, etc.
