• Regarding the COV-19 virus and its effects:

Things are frustrating, and confusing, and scary. People dream up conspiracy theories to help make sense of things. They're not helpful, though, and only serve to make the world more confusing and scarier.

We're not going to have that here. If there's new information to be shared, share it, but cite your information to a reputable source. And we swear to God, if anyone comes in here and starts spouting off QAnon bullshit about COVID-19 or literally anything else, you are going to get permabanned so thoroughly that your grandchildren won't be allowed to post here.

Let me recommend you a great pirates game

Ian... Could you give us an Actual Play or some highlights of the game? I'd love to hear about the play. You tell us what the system can do, I'd like to see how it's done in practice!
We were chasing down a pair of merchant ships. We rolled off, and were gaining on them. They pushed themselves (escalated) which lets them reroll fails. Still no good, so not only do we catch them, but their mast breaks in the desperate attempt to escape us. You can do this in any conflict, but some are safer to escalate more before you get a big risk (such as a fist fight compared to a sword fight, or a ship pursuit compared to a boarding action). Escalating within a dangerous action will bring you much quicker to risking your life (but also your opponent's).

My character killed four good Christian sailors in order to repay a bargain with the Devil he made earlier. Another character sodomized one of the prisoners in order to make himself a tougher pirate.

Don't sugar-coat! I think we sodomized a boy's esophagus (after decapitating him). Just to make sure we had a virgin orifice.

Due to a tragic misunderstanding about the "X"s, I snuck around the ship suck-punching fellow pirates and telling them to take it like a man. This then became my "thing," and when Ian was unable to lash me due to an excess of Soul, I sucker-punched him and told him to take it like a man.

I was, of course, playing a woman disguised as a man. This automatically gave me one level of blasphamy. The extra level came from fucking women as a "man."

Yeah, it's kind of like that.

It's the Devil and other mechanics that I'm interested in... How do the mechanics drive the game?

Having read Lynch's mediocre Red Seas Under Red Skies and the terrible PotC, I'm curious to see a darker version of pirates. This sounds dark, but I'm wondering how the mechanics drive play in that direction.

Check out the Poison'd thread on story-games. Some of us chat a bit more over there about system driving the premise.

You were really intent on doing that.

My character, however, was just looking for ass-sex to accrue another sin to make it easier for me to do bad-ass pirate stuff.

Poison'd is the pirates show that would be on HBO -- as Deadwood is to the Western, Poison'd is to pirates.

Pirates of the Caribbean films are made by Disney.

If you're looking for PG pirates, stick with Disney.

I assume the game also includes rum and the lash?
Of course.

I also picked this up but have yet to play. It looks like a most awesome game.

The basic set-up is that the captain of your pirate ship has been poisoned. You need to decide who gets to be captain, what to do with the poisoner, how to deal with a pursuing English warship, and other decisions. It mixes Dogs in the Vineyard style play with sin and blasphemy.

Anyone know if there's an alternate non-Paypal way of getting the game? I've had nothing but trouble from them in the past and just managed to permanently lock my new account cause I forgot my password.

I hate Paypal.
