Greetings from Jupiterstan. I'm your host, Caps. This is my first post here, and it's an LP one, which is probably about ten kinds of bad form, but I figure if we stay short of a full eleven, I'm good.
As for what we'll be playing...
Man.
I have no idea what this is.
I'm told the mess of kanji haphazardly barfed onto the right side of the image says Touhou Gensoumaroku - Matsuri, Matsuri being the expansion. Let's trust in the reader of inscrutable squiggles here, yeah?
As for what this is, Touhou Gensoumaroku/Devil of Decline/DoD is related to Touhou. Touhou is a lot like Dungeons and Dragons, only it's more like Ladies and Lasers than either of those things. Brought to you by a drunk man in Japan, and legions of impossibly dedicated fans bring out things like, say, entire RPGs based on it. And there you have it. DoD is one such game. There are two slight complications with this LP, though, and I feel I should mention them.
1: I only know what I wrote above regarding Touhou. In fact, I only know that from a friend who brought up DoD while playing it, and explained what its deal was after I had downloaded the game on an impulse.
2: I can only read a really, really tiny amount of Japanese.
Consequently, I may have views on the plot and characters that differ slightly from established canon. Gameplay's cool, though, they'res helping me behind the scenes with that. And lending me their Photobucket account for this LP (thanks for that, if you're reading this). So I can still murder things and show you pictures of it juuuust fine. I'll also explain gameplay elements if anyone wants. If anyone wants to know more about Touhou, well, just head to the Touhou thread on this subforum. I'm not going to read that too much; gotta play blind to stay supes hardcore.
Now, here's the first choice, before we even start. You have to choose a starting character from the four big-eyed world-savers shown in the picture above. Each changes your protagonist, exploration theme, starting party and the protagonist's starting shikigami (think somewhere between a Persona and a Materia, three per person). It's kind of a big deal. As such, here are your choices.
Bottom-centre:Animu Hakurei Reimu Hakurei Frill Batman. Series protagonist. Her limit break fully heals everyone, I think, in case anyone cares. Dark and tragic crimefighting-inducing past to be revealed once she's chosen or if enough people want spoilers this early on. Apparently decent all around with a casting bent, high luck, bad at dex (proc effects/debuffs).
Left: Brokuren Eriksdottir. Nun. Viking. Bro. Possibly punk judging by the hair. Caster and best dex around, but not too frail for a spellchucker.
Right: Umbrella, so named for her umbrella. Not her ribbons, which totally look like umbrellas, but don't be taken in by their cunning disguise. Strong ties with Reimu's backstory. Jack of all trades, good stats all around except for poor speed. Moving on.
Top: Commie, the commie. Also, I'm told, a gate guard and martial artist. Strengthiest of our heroines. We will not discuss commies in any greater detail in this house of glorious freedom and capitalism.
And there you have it! Please make your pick or stone me as you see fit.
