The first pair hits the ridge-line targets with their remaining bombs, and launch salvos of rockets for good measure, enough to start a moderate forest fire one one of the hilltops.

The Jake is now airborne and is on station to observe any activity.

As the first pair of Invaders flies away they communicate the second pair is inbound; ETA ten minutes.

The pair of Cambodian biplanes flies close to the ridge, filming, and taking stock of the effects of the bombing run. Suddenly, the leading aircraft veers erratically toward the east, rear machine gun chattering. Over the radio, the crew is hysterical, ranting about intense heat and a giant worm breaching the earth to engulf the moons in the sky.

Weaving like a dying bird, the plane makes a path straight for the river - looking to be on a direct course to impact La Reine de Saigon.
OOC: So we are a day into our jungle trek to the patrol base? Or did the Invaders get ahead of schedule?

OOC: Aight, let's take it back a bit

Hamon shakes his head at the weird vision that rocked his head... Nerves? Or a premonition.

Regardless, here they are now, trekking through the thick foliage of a steaming Cambodian jungle, looking to confront the demons that infest the area.

Hamon keeps his eyes peeled, applying all the Military Science he can, trying desperately hard to Notice anything out of the ordinary. This absolutely isn't his first patrol, but all this bizarrerie has set his nerves on edge, and he's now very concerned not to get caught out, or even ambushed, by these phenomena. From the boat swarming with dead men to the insidiously seductive orchard, there's an unpleasant undertow of deception and entrapment about all this that he really doesn't like.

The DAB's recce section are a very experienced lot who have been together with Guy for the last couple years. He trusts them to move at an appropriate pace for the terrain and to mutually support each other while staying within 10 metres or so.
Guy, for his part, sweats and ensures that contact is maintained with the infanterie that follows.
Chanida, one of the recces, confers with Guy occasionally to agree on their position. The Guy will slow down to quickly confer with that elements leader, then he will move forward again.
While chatting with Fayolle and his Tonkin Rifles Guy mutters, " I hope the scheduled air makes the time hacks we need." "I am hoping for that distraction to help us get into position."
The column stretches a few hundred metres, pointing towards the ridge line a few kilometres away. Dozens of sweating souls, with wet feet and other miseries that narrowly beat out the pervasive fear that blankets them all.
Radios occasionally squelch, men cough, but there is no smoking and everyone's ears are ringing with anticipation.
How can the dead walk?

Fayolle

Fayolle smiles. "At this point, I merely hope that they hit the targets that we have designated and not us."

Greenyear keeps Guy and Hamon updated. Amadou and his grenadier team are with the column to act, along with the Legionaires, as a heavy infantry section. Greenyear has elected to keep the remainder of his security team in reserve, to act as a mobile choc element if need be.

Above, the column can hear the a near constant, gentle droning, as the Cambodian biplanes, mark their targets and fly back overhead, keeping track of the column, and looking out for possible hostile. So far, the only soundtrack is the occasional murmuring and chatter of the men, the air elements, and the birds and beasts of the jungle going about their business. The team leads occasionally catch glimpses of something pigeon-sized flapping among the upper canopies of the forest. Vinh thinks its an Emerald Dove, and smiles. Hamon (and anyone with Notice or Survival) isn't so sure. Whatever bird this might be, seems to be shadowing the column; something that a wild bird as shy as an Emerald dove would not likely do. Anyone that might mention their suspicions to Vinh will get the brush off - he is adamant that this is an auspicious sign.

Meanwhile, the men also notice when the lone Privateer detailed to the team comes on station. Through breaks in the trees they can see it tracing a path back and forth high in the sky, silent at this distance.

The Invaders hit their marks without incident. The biplanes report good effect; no ground fire, no signs of enemy.

As the flight of B-26s exit, they report inbound river traffic; it appears to be a river freighter and an armed barge flying a tricolore!

During a break in march Kurt raised an eyebrow at Hamon and asked, "Were we expecting company?"
