  • Regarding the COV-19 virus and its effects:

Things are frustrating, and confusing, and scary. People dream up conspiracy theories to help make sense of things. They're not helpful, though, and only serve to make the world more confusing and scarier.

We're not going to have that here. If there's new information to be shared, share it, but cite your information to a reputable source. And we swear to God, if anyone comes in here and starts spouting off QAnon bullshit about COVID-19 or literally anything else, you are going to get permabanned so thoroughly that your grandchildren won't be allowed to post here.

  • In the last year the Asian-American and Pacific Islander community has increasingly been the target of hate and violence, with the recent shooting being only the most recent and horrific example. Multiple redundancies at Mongoose

Richard Ford and gareth Hanrahan have gone public with theirs but they're not the only ones.

Gareth had been with the company for nearly 7 years when let go. He helmed Paranoia, is the designer for the new Deus Vult coming out later this year...and he was dismissed with minimal notice or payment.

Richard Ford's a staff editor. He just got made redundant today having had it hanging over his head for the last couple of weeks.

No hint of this was given before Christmas/New Years.

Ouch :(

Gareth did (very) good work with Paranoia. A bit worried about the fate of the game line without him there. :(

Hope everything works out for those concerned, being laid off is always a bitch (btdt).

Huh. Considering the revitalization that Paranoia is going through, I'm surprised at this move.

Doesn't suprise me, Mongooses heyday seems to have passed and they never really had the best thought out business plans and strategy (they made a lot of great games but a lot of bad decisions in how they would support them, and release schedules around them).

A friend of mine worked for them sometime back, and whilst they certainly knew their games, produced great product, their enthusiasm tended to get the better of them.

Hopefully its just a business moving forward plan of redundencys, rather than a signal that the end is coming.

This is the Internet. EVERYTHING that happens is a sign that the end is coming.

I'm not going to comment on anything to do with my contract at Mongoose at this point. It's no-one's business but mine and theirs.

That said - I am going freelance again, and if anyone's looking to hire an experienced writer, my email address is mytholder at gmail dot com. :)

Odd. They recently had an ad for a new staff member. They've been crowing about their new shiny editorial standards. And now they get rid of their editor and one of their best writers (arguably their best).

"I am Mongoose and so can you!"
