Madeline sighs and rubs her head as she glances at her datapad, deciding to leave it off until I needed it for one reason or another. After that she takes a quick shower, then grabs Seiran and gives her a tight hug before bringing her towards their room. "C'mon, let's snuggle a bit before we pass out for the evening." To Selina, she says "You can stay the night here if you want and can find a comfy spot to sleep, or you can head home to sleep in your bed. Whatever you'd prefer."

"I'd better go home," Selina says reluctantly, giving Jake a last, questioning look. "I could get in trouble if I stay away for too long, and that's the last thing I need right now."

She steps close to Madeline, putting a hand on her arm, and speaks quietly. "I know you're upset, but try to see it from Skippy's perspective. She's only trying to protect herself and her people - people like me."

She's out the door and gone without waiting for any reply.

Morning comes, and with it another workday for Amelia, Jake and Kurg.

Leila is due at Sandy's by 6:00 PM, but she has plenty of time before that.

What are you doing to start your day?

Madeline pauses, and gives Selina a squeeze.

"I do get it Selina. I'm not mad that she bugged our datapads. I'm mad that, after this morning, she didn't tell us about it. We've told her we're not from around here, not used to any of how things work around here. She seemed to grasp the idea this morning after our disagreement... that would have been a good time to tell us about the bugs."

Madeline doesn't mention removing them... in part because at this point she's not sure even if she had told them about it that Skippy would have done so... but learning about it like this, by accident instead, was still immensely irritating.

Madeline stretches and yawns, then promptly forgets which direction Seiran is as she moves to nuzzle her and falls out of the bed with a soft yelp.

Leila wakes up unsure what to do with her day. Part of her wants to dig further into the Kindred. She has a feeling she's going to need to head back to them to see if they have any leads on the Blade. But then she remembers about Skippy's little spy app, and she doesn't quite trust the search. Just listening to music is probably safe. But until the problem is dealt with, best be careful about using it.

Knowing she has quite a few hours until her new job, she decides to instead practice magic. She does need to build herself back up with that as well, after all. So she casts Shroud of Darkness on herself, just to see how long she can hold it. Hopefully, she won't need to do any emergency healing this morning, and Seiran is around if something comes up.

"A human rights group, sir," Selina says, having taken the question as directed at her. "They do charitable work for the underprivileged, support space exploration, that sort of thing. They also vote against chimera rights whenever the subject comes up, speak out against pro-chimera programs, organize counter-protests, and generally seek to undo everything Hiram Jestocost managed to accomplish. They believe that as we were created to serve humans, we're flesh robots and that's all we should ever do, and be grateful for it. Dressed up in prettier language, of course, sir."

She takes a deep breath. "There's also . . . reason to believe they were responsible for the death of Hiram Jestocost, though nothing has ever been proven."
Jake was about to ask who that was, but Seiran waved him down.

"Chimera rights advocate," Seiran explains. "I'll explain later."

OOC: Assume Seiran does explain during the timeskip to morning, along with doing a bit of her own research on him.

"Basically a group that our horrible acquaintance Vollmacher might find at least some common cause with. They at least sound similar to what you've spoken of in regards to the Nazi's."
"A 'Final Solution to the Chimera problem'?" Jake replies cynically. "I doubt they're that bad.

"Still, the way you say it... doesn't make them sound friendly."

He makes a mental note to read up on them later.
"Do you anticipate needing better protection?"
Jake thinks, then shrugs.

"Doubt it, but wouldn't hurt," he replies.
She listens to Selina's description of Man First in stiff silence.
"What do you think of them?" Jake asks Amelia quietly.
"I'd better go home," Selina says reluctantly, giving Jake a last, questioning look. "I could get in trouble if I stay away for too long, and that's the last thing I need right now."

Jake simply nods, though he still doesn't seem entirely convinced.

Still, it's getting late, and he should get ready for tomorrow.

Seiran gets up, does her morning exercises and prayer, and tries to get herself in a good mood for the rest of the day. Madeline's gotten a job as a fancy escort, something she's going to have to accept, and she herself needs to find a job. She's made her job application form yesterday with Selina's help, but now she has to send it to various companies. While she would have preferred a medical or teaching post, reading the requirements for those made her heart sink. She technically fulfilled the requirements; at least a decade of education and a matching time of experience, even though those were standard for her long-lived people - but the utter lack of plausible work references made it seem a bit suspect. Everyone she worked with was dead and gone, and even if they weren't, she wouldn't know where to find them.

Still, she presented her application, and she presented it to a few other jobs she hoped would be manageable, like babysitter, housecleaning, or even dishwashing. A job was a job, after all, and she had precious little money left.

"Madeline, did we present the demo disc to IceFire Records yet?" Seiran absently asks her partner and roommate.

* * *

Meanwhile, Jake got up, did his morning exercises, and went out for a walk around the block before it was time to head to work for Ryder Mining. As he walked, he decided to read up a bit more on Man First, Hiram Jestocost, the Full Maker's Society, and related stuff. Most importantly, he decides to read up on the documentation required for joining the Full Maker's society, especially if he needed to forge anything.

Spoiler: Show

Talisman Talisman I don't think you ever actually dealt with what exactly happened on that front Max. Did the studio just send it, or did the three of them drop it off and then head home, or what?

Amelia goes through her morning routine, but despite a brisk walk some part of her is restless.

Her quarry is out there.

OOC: Selina specifically left before Madeline could respond.

Meanwhile, Jake got up, did his morning exercises, and went out for a walk around the block before it was time to head to work for Ryder Mining. Jake finds several articles on each of these subjects. A thorough understanding is clearly going to take some research, but he can at least get the basics.

Man First is, as Selina said, a human rights organization. Membership is exclusively human, and their stated goal is "to support human dignity and encourage progress and exploration." They do a lot of charitable work, helping out the disabled, sponsoring education for children in need, and working towards expansion and exploration beyond Rhea and the rest of Saturn's moons. They also seem to oppose chimera rights, voting against them whenever the subject comes up, and generally campaigning to keep chimeras in their current position as second-class citizens. This is presented in positive terms, as protecting human rights and opportunities, rather than condemning chimeras.

Hiram Jestocost was a Council member, best remembered for a body of laws now known as the Jestocost Statute, which he was instrumental in passing. These laws are what elevated the chimeras from the status of trained animals, to the legally protected near-human status they now enjoy. A tall, lean man with a powerful voice, Jestocost appears to have been respected even by his political enemies. There are a number of theories and rumors about him, including that he owned secret stock in the chimera creches, or had a chimera mistress or twelve, or even that he himself was an extensively biomodded chimera disguised as a human. He's compared to several historical figures, including Abraham Lincoln and someone named Malcolm X. He seems to have been a very bold and controversial figure, either loved or hated; no one has neutral opinions about him. Unsurprisingly, he is mostly revered by chimeras. It's noted that he died in a shuttlecraft accident while en route to Sköll Base for a diplomatic meeting.

The Full Maker's Society is a relatively new organization, only established a few years ago. It is a human-centric group, dedicated to the celebration of Germanic heritage, and seems to be mostly a social club for people with some Germanic ancestry. There are classes to learn authentic German food and art, crafts for kids, and a general positive "it's great to be German!" attitude. Full membership is open to anyone who can demonstrate German ancestry, either through family/historical records, or a DNA test. For obvious reasons, chimeras cannot join the Society, but there is nothing specifically anti-chimera noted.

There are a number of endorsements by wealthy and/or prominent locals, and some suggestions that membership in the Society leads to excellent business opportunities, but no specific details.

Madeline mumbles into the floor first before she pulls herself up and says "I believe the studio we recorded it at sent it to them. If not, I'll check and see if we have it on our datapads or call up Icefire to see if they got it.

Sure, sounds good. I can be over a bit earlier if you'd like after I get some breakfast, I don't think I have anything going on right now.

Madeline makes sure to poke Seiran as she says "I've got a job today, pay is 200 credits plus some tips, so that sounds helpful towards us dealing with any debt we have."
