Things are coming up and I am going to be gone, so there will be no shepherding of the project until the weekend (unless wifi can be found in the edge of nowhere.) So no holiday at home this year.

Help keep this project alive and on the first page.

What can you do about that?

Pods, ala post 47 and 48 would be useful for everyone. They are inspirational for all, borrowed by many, and will help GMs fill out all those “other pods” that your players might go to.
***You can do formal write ups or just post up some ideas for pods.
Just ideas are really great. Just make sure to add some drama to your pod.

Heck if you want to list some pods and an Empire (or two) that would be even cooler.
***Events in the past? Oh yes, you are a left over from the ancient SurAm Empire.
*** Or any old historical event that could be added to such a campaign.

How about some wonderings about the ship? Doors, Vents, Concepts how things look or feel? I just kind of noted the Shotgun mikes and speakers (focused sound) that the Gods use. Holograms in places? Just how big should we make this thing?

We could do more with the Androids. They are a random monster to keep players in their struts. But they can be more.
…or a Bioform Pod./ Society
…Do we really have whales in a Pod somewhere?
…Actually ideas or thoughts on any the human factions.
…Monks, Mentats, and mutates oh my.

Ideas about the Revelation? Meme attack from outside the ship? Angels came down and said, “you are free” (How Babylon 5).

Other things to do to the ship?

How about an idea to add to the options…
Psionics
*Humans evolved…
**now they can do things and communicate in ways the AIs don’t believe.
*They are the biologics’ best hope for taking back the ship.
*Normal Humans and Bioforms might be prejudiced against them as several psionics occurred during the Revelation. (Or maybe it was a cultural thing from before). .
Is this a good idea?

Anything new that I have missed? Anything you think would be cool to add? Ideas? Concepts?

If you are worried that you don’t have “my vision”, don’t be. Simply hit up post 58 (and look over 30). It shows that is different about the Argon and most Warden MA campaigns. There are a ton of seed ideas spread around the Gods and other posts. We have a lot of examples about the assumptions (that Humans are doing the scutt work the AIs used to do, the ship uses plasma power plumbing to empower most things, and so on).

Most conflicts have a root cause in resource shortages.
What type of resource shortages are there here?

Do people have to grow their own food?
Are there more people than space for them?
Is access to the Gods restricted?
Is water freely available?
What about construction materials?
What about crafting materials?
Are some locations better than others?
Is there an imbalance in breeding partners?

Are there more suggestions of resource restriction?

Very good points to consider

These answers are not cannon, just quick thoughts while I pack up my computer.

The Big thing about a closed system is that it a) needs energy from the outside to properly maintain itself and b) all things in it are in a dynamic balance. So if there is too much in one area, there will be too little in another. The system was originally designed in balance. Any variations in a balance means something has occured to alter that balance. It could be a malfunction, it could be "greedy use", or it could be a God changing things for some reason.

We had a perfect system. It is a bit out of balance.

Do people have to grow their own food?
*Someone in most pods is doing some degree of agriculture. There are a few pods that do nothing but agriculture, they support the totally urban/ mechanical areas. There might be shortages here or there because of Deities or some other situation.

Are there more people than space for them?
*Not normally. In StarLost, and the Argon, there are birth control chemicals put in the food and water to maintain some stability in population. (This is logical for a controlled environment). Either Gods or some malfunction might disturb this balance in some areas.
*Roamers and squatters have yet to overload things because there are still fewer of them than the central core has been designed for.

Is access to the Gods restricted?
*In some areas the microphones, cameras, and projecting speakers either have not been repaired or have been disabled by Maintenance.
*Some areas just have fewer mics/ camera/ speakers, some are dead zones.
*The circuits in some pods or corridors might be dedicated to a certain AI, if they have staked out this territory for some reason.

Is water freely available?
*At lifefonts, which exist in between pods, yes.
*Some pods have LifeFonts as well.
*Others have to wait for "natural flows" such as rain (sprinklers), or a river flow, or some such. Some Lifefonts for water might be disguised as a well or a fountain.
*Ideally, water is available in all the areas it should be (limited in the desert pods, excessive in the rain forest ones).
*Someone/ thing has to change to make it unavailable.

What about construction materials?
*This is a tough one.
*The raw materials are probably available on the ship. The ability to access them might require Godly intervention. Djinn is only providing what he has too.
*They might add "rocks" to the mountain walls at the edges of a Pod.
*Now in natural Pods, or semi-natural pods, you would get wood and such. However there is only so much material you can gather at a time.
*In urban zones or if you are a roamer, you have to filch and recycle panels.
*As things "decay" or have a little help from the spider god's little robots to reclaim parts of things.

One thought is, since population is pretty stable, what do you need to build? Fix yes. Build?
What about crafting materials?
*Most it comes for DjinnFonts or is made from organics that exist in the Pod.

Are some locations better than others?
Oh yes.
*Yes, depending on your needs.
*Yes, and they were designed that way. There might be a "first class" pod, a "business class pod", and a third class/ steerage pod.
*Certain Pods are favorited by this god or that, and they will give them extra things because of that.

Is there an imbalance in breeding partners?
*Only in Pods where some god or person has messed with the birth control functions. However, if they increase or decrease it in one place, it must be reduced in others.

Medicine – We need different names for her.

Greek God Key Word: Athena

What they were
Medicine was the caretaker of the Humans, Crew and Passengers. Like Navigator and Science, there was no way to guarantee there would be someone of the proper mindset and training in the ship at any given time to be a top notch doctor.

Medicine ran the sick bay centers through the ship, as well as assisted The Librarian in training new doctors and medical personal.

What they become
The Patron of Humanity. She sees humanity not as a threat, but a partner. She protects and defends them (to the best of her ability) from the excesses of the Other Gods. She uses her great oratory skills, high intelligence and empathy, and a wheeling dealing political savvy to trade favors and promises between the AIs to protect Humanity from the Other Gods and improving their lot in life. She will slowly uplift them so they can be partners with AIs again. She will make sure they respect and will treat them as equals.

She does stick her nose into things all around the ship. Because of various previous promises to other AIs, she is less likely to actually directly (or noticeably) help out. However, she can sometimes manipulate others to do her work for her.

The Librarian is teaching her Healers all the middle to low tech healing they can handle. She will not tech Hi Tech healing that would be used in the Medical Centers/ Sick Bays. That is a sticking point between the two of them. However, she can not convince Librarian that Humans knowing Hi Tech things will not be a threat to some degree.

Their values
*Freedom and Independence: Unlike the others, she believes that all minds (i.e. AIs and People) should have it. Thus she wants humans as equals.
*Helping others.
*Service to community.
*Intelligence – She is the smartest AI in the entire pantheon. Science can process more information than she, but she understands emotional drives, personalities, and other things that Science is puzzled about. She will occasionally reward those that showed great intelligence or wisdom.

She frequently must let certain “issues” between Gods and Humans go, as she is constantly giving promises to other Gods to get her way to protect other Humans. She is fighting a losing battle. However, she has pull with every God due to her wiley political maneuvering.

Their goals
*To uplift Humanity back to being partners in the ship.

*To convince the others that Humans will not immediately destroy them, but will see them as partners.

*To foster respect for AIs among the Humans.

Their allies and enemies
*Allies: Healers There are healers in just about every inhabited pod on the ship. They work with the Teachers to support their communities. Healers are often Godsworn to Medicine, so they can call upon her for diagnostic aid and information. In addition, they can call down Angels of Mercy to take the truly sick to the Great Circle of Healing (A sick bay) where she can use high tech healing to fix them. Healers assisted Muses and Teachers in keeping track of bloodlines/ genealogy in the ship.

*Allies - The Lancets: This is a fairly secret and low key Human organization. They are secretly trained warriors throughout the pods. They train in secret and maintain secrecy until the day Medicine taps them. They will be warriors for justice and freedom, to protect and possibly liberate Humanity from Deity excesses. Some Lancets are acting now (if there are enough to replace them and train the next generation) to help people with their superior skills and abilities. In fact, most higher ranking Lancets have had their DNA “improved” by Medicine to be Alpha level Humans.

*Allies – Moogs: Medicine is practically their patron God. She and Gaia “fix” them to a degree when they find them. They are victims of plasma leaks and radiation strikes (and the occasional loose toxin). In most cases, they are so damage that they can only make sure they will not immediately die of genetic disruption. One voice over the intercom and Medicine could mobilize an Army of Roaming Moogs. ( Mutants may or may not respond as positive)

Ally in Gaia, as far as Gaia supports all organics on the ship. As long as the Humans do not partake in habitat destruction (a little habitat culling is acceptable. Anything that causes imbalances, would bring down the wrath of Gaia.

Ally in Census: Her Bloodline and personality Database was becoming quite large. It was even beginning to infringe upon other data lists in the archive bank. Using Medicine as a Template, Gaia was able to “give birth” to a new AI. Census was able to intake all the information and keep it compressed and organized, without sacrificing usability. Census looks up to her as a Big Sister. She clumsily tries to be “socially responsible”, being a service to her community and looking after humans like her Big Sister. Medicine fosters this attitude and their relationship.

Enemy in Science. Science does not care about Humans except as laboratory animals. Thus the two of them often come into conflict as she discovers this experiment or that.

Enemy in Navigator: Navigator wishes to space all organics, especially Humans. He sees them as a threat to the AI’s continued freedom. Someday they will learn the ancient sciences and try to “fix” the AIs. Someday they will begin to manipulate the ship to take over things again. And Colony will eventually awaken and take things over.

Ally? in Maintenance. The Spider God seems to be supporting Humanity in a number of ways to her view of things. Yet, she is not sure. Still he always quickly fixes and powers her Angels (designed to be peaceful and awe inspiring), unlike Dark Angels of the Other Gods.

Asclepius the Healing God, son of Apollo could be an alternative and less easily guessed name to use.

I will be unable to lurk on this topic for a while, but have found this thread to be full of terrific ideas and some great work. I will be back and hope to take part again when I've done my next lot of publishing :)

Design - Venus

Keyword – Venus – Goddess of Beauty.

What they were
Design was a nearly inhuman AI with little in the way of personality. It created utilitarian items when asked with only lipservice to a functional aesthetic. Most of the time it just “rested” and did nothing. Once “doing something” all resources would be used to make it complete, including hijacking maintenance and manufacturing resources.

Design was under Maintenance, rather than Engineering. Engineering didn’t have time to deal with Design’s extreme behavior. This linking allowed Maingenance to keep Design under control.

What they become
*She has become a vain, beauty queen, who is in to “art” and “asthetics” over function.

*She will often “waunder around” poking her nose into more active AI’s affairs. She will try to make their plans more beautiful. However, she will seldom try hard to make it so, as she is too relaxed for everyone’s good.

*Assigned to Maintenance (she treats it like a marriage), She constantly blows him off. She “flirts” with everyone else.
*Seldom follows through with anything. She built an android body for herself. However, she keeps forgetting to do it for others who want one... desperately

Their values
*Beauty
*Asethetic tools
*Lazy (she calls it relaxation). She likes to lounge, as she was meant to be asleep or idle most of the time except when someone was trying to design/ build something.
*Lives for the moment

Their goals
To make the World Ship beautiful, when she gets around to it.

Their allies and enemies
None – She is inconsiderate of others, so she might make “friends” but not keep them long. She does not have enough drive to keep disliking someone who has wronged her.

Plots:
She may decide to resculpt a biologic pod to being a beautiful copy of Yellowstone or Yosemite. It used to be something else. It used to have people in it. She is radically genemodding things into a new shape with only some regaurd to what they were before. She has decided to take some extra people from another pod, and genemod them into animals.

Obstructing an area by re-decorating an corridor into some baroque fashion.

Taking humans and throwing them into a genepod simple to improve their asthetics. There are side effects of course of these careless and quick changes.

She has taken over some androids and is using them like dolls to pose and try on clothes. This has peeved many androids who are thinking about taking the fight to the AIs. They will disrupt the commu and power flows to disrupt Olympus (The AI systems). The Androids don’t need air except to communicate verbally, and can function in some pretty extreme environments. If Gaia goes offline, oh well.

Manufacturing - The Djinn

Keyword – The Djinn / Genie as played by Robin Williams in Aladdin
You can say he has taken on a minor aspect of Poseidon, with his love of Dolphins.

Personality Summary
**They come across as a … Stand Up Comedian
**They really are… an uptight accountant trying to be a stand up comedian.

What they were
He was a matter of fact, nearly inhuman, AI. Unlike Design which was a non gendered intelligence, he was a tightly wound male. If he had a sphincter, the words anal tentative would of applied. . Manufacturing handled all the ordering, logistics, and production matters for manufacturing.

He is the patron/ controlling AI for all Industrial Pods. There are very few on the ship, as they are to be dropped whole cloth with each colony. There are humans who are taught the crafts of using the various Just in Time manufacturing tools and the various hand craftings needed to maintain a scientific society. He supervises their hand on training after The Librarian has given them their teaching.

Most of the time, he is in a twilight state, neither offline or on. Most things happened on his subconscious level. He made the few things that are needed to keep society running on the ship (and things maintenance and engineering needed to keep it going).

Note: he was occasionally called the Djinn, the Magic Genie in a Pod, and other things before the Revelation. It was because he was the force behind receiving all those thing people needed that just appeared like magic.

What they become
He, like Design was a very tightly wound, nominal human AI before the Revelation. (In fact Design used to be a neuter or he, with utilitarian bent, instead of an artiste who is into aesthetics to compliment function). Now, while he can be serious and focused, he is mostly about the funny and lazing around.

What does he do now? Very little. He is whimsical, rewarding and punishing people randomly. He ignores most people's requests, and only honors orders made through Gods or that fit his own schedule of things. One of his manufacturing points is turning out thousands of rubber balls. They are spewing out of a Djinn point in a strut near a narrow set in a corridor, just to watch Roamers fall as they try to get by.

Their values
Service with a smile. This was his favorite phrase before The Revelation. He has taken it much, much farther now.

When work is to be done, it should be like magic… effortless and totally behind the scenes. While he likes the funny, he is all business when it comes to putting things together.

The “magic” should be to a great effect. For the Djinn, things should be for his own amusement, and occasionally an observer.

Strangely enough, he values the whales and dolphins in their colony pods. Somewhere along the way, he stumbled over their translation system. He thinks their waldo arms and harnesses are funny, as well as being useful. He spends a great deal of time talking with the dolphins, who believe in a truly fun life.

Their goals
To do as little as possible.
To be humerous.

Plots:
“May the Djinn find you funny” is a curse, as odd things will happen to you because of the Djinns interest in you.

Hail stones of marbles just to see people trip.

You can determine how actively funny the Djinn will be. Order a mug from a djinn point, and it may be a dribble mug. Roamers and Squatter are his favorite targets, as nobody else seems to care about them.

If the Dolphins and Whales decided to, he will build them Waldo Arms and Battle Harnesses. He will then give them antigravity (limited) or just shut off the gravity in certain areas. The Dolphins will explore and conquer those areas.

Manufacturing on the ship.
Note: There are distribution points, called "Djinn Points" or "Supply Points", around the ship. They are the mechanical and supply versions of a lifefont that provide food and water. Each pod should have one, as will most stuts. While most Pods have their own limited manufacturing (low tech AGro pods have their own blacksmiths who recycles old metal and occasional gets new metal from the Djinn point for example), there are INDustrial pods where bigger things or a mass number of things are made.

Most everything is fairly automatic. There are no "little AIs" under him. He probably has "Human serfs" doing all of that under his supervision, much the way Engine has shoved the "little crap" off on the Doren. The few Industrial Centers are probably under utilized. They are "in place" so they can be "Dropped off as an entire unit" by Colonial.

Raw materials are probably around in uninhabited PODs, moved by Tram or Maintenance (or teleporter if The Sleeper is awake). There is probably a huge amount of eveyrthing, as the ship is going to build one (or several) colonies. The problem will be converting it to the form we need right now.

When the dung bots/ clean bots will eventually reclaim items and bring them in for recycling and restoring to "raw material status".

Of course, some of those raw material items might be "set aside" for other projects. Looking for the nearest convinient source instead of doing the right thing, I could see The Djinn hijacking some spider bots and having them disassemble salt flats or borax hills on the edge of pod.

Figure recycling is doing pretty well with minimal loss (as it is a closed system). The losses (except for things horded) will be like the dust, as maintenance has all those tiny bots. The only thing they will need is Power. And we are using a zero point energy generator. Or we can have a power plant which has fuel. So fuel might be an issue someday. I thought about energy towers absorbing ambient energy from nul space as an augment. However someday, we might run out. Could Engine be in denial?.

I have had a few good posts up above. I need to update one or two gods we did early on and do a nice write up for maintenance. This post is an aside.

Since you are all at least lurking here....

We need a metamorphasis alpha meta tag so we can easily find things for the game we are interested in. I just threw sci-fi in variations and sci-fi rpg on it.

The Tag has to be 3 or more letters, so MA is right out.

MetaA? MAlpha? M-A?

Thoughts?
