Thursday night, End of October, 2013. Towards the end of the Build Up.

Mindil Beach Markets.

Though now more orientated to tourists than locals there was still good food to be had at the markets among the cheap chinese plastic and knock-off t-shirts.

The two couples weaved among the food stalls, a local man stood singing with a group of backpackers providing percussion and encouragement and further along the beach people were walking back up beneath the trees from watching the sunset.

A couple of Belgian boys had passed out on the grass and some Larrakeyah kids were painting them various colours with some textas, a tall Yolngu man stumbled along through the crowd muttering to himself and a loud group of young pilipinas giggled and chattered their way noisily up the main thoroughfare.

There was a loud crack and one of the backpackers, a tall bearded boy with dreadlocks, collapsed to the ground. Bright red blood poured out of a fist sized hole in his chest....

The entire market collapsed into screaming and running; Lieve and Wira ducked behind a laksa stand out of the path of the panicked people.

Across the way Edmund sheltered Lestari beside a t-shirt stall.

Fatima wrapped her arms around her daughter and ducked low.

"Fuck a bloody gun 'enthusiast' gone bonkers." Lieve looked around trying to work out where the shot had come from, there was a lot contempt in the word enthusiast.

Edmund, keeping Lestari behind him, scans the crowd for the shooter.

Fatima hugs Indah to her chest, trying to keep the girl from seeing the carnage. She stays low, trying to stay out of the way of any more bullets. At the same time, her investigator's instincts make it so she cannot stop herself from gazing at the scene to try to better assess what happened. She looks over at the victim, then scans the crowd for the shooter.

A few moments pass and their are no additional shots, sirens are heard in the distance and security officers from the nearby Starcity Casino can be seen running towards the scene in the distance.

The area is suddenly deserted except for a few scattered people sheltering behind or within stalls, the shot man quivers then lies still blood forms a pool haloing his body.

Fatima is momentarily torn by indecision. She can't just leave the man there bleeding, but she also has Indah to look after. Finally, her better instincts get the worst of her and she takes Indah by the hand and says, "Mama has to go see if she can help that man. But she doesn't want you getting close to him--you might find it scary. You stay here," she finishes firmly, making the girl take a seat where she will remain plainly in Fatima's sight, but most likely out of harm's way. Fatima steps out cautiously, looking around for trouble, listening for gun blasts. If it seems safe, she moves forward, still cautiously, to try to give the shooting victim first aid.

Spoiler: Show
Intelligence + Doctor roll for first aid: 1d10+6+2=13

Damian May, will you be playing Indah or should I? Or do you want to split the responsibility?

You continue. She's in no danger for the time being.

Once Fatima sees the cost is clear, she moves quickly to the shooting victim, trying to give any first aid she can.

I actually made the roll in my last post. I guess I didn't label it clearly enough.

Lieve waits anxiously for more shots when none come she heads over to the body. She looks at the fist sized hole, "if he survived that he's a tough bugger." She casually moves between Fatima and where the shots came from.
