[UK LARP EVENT] Empire- Solstice 1

So Profound Decisions just held the first event of their new game: Empire to replace their recently concluded game Maelstrom. A medieval-esque game of an Empire forged from many Nations struggling to survive and rebuild from a catastrophic loss of its best and brightest.

Given that Rule 7, the normal forum for such discussions does not seem to be working, I thought I'd throw up a quick thread to hear what any others who attended the the Event thought of it.

Personally the only bad part of the entire weekend for me was the weather, -10 or lower temperatures some nights and boggy ground was not a contribution that made me want to wander the field much which was a shame as I failed to get to see a lot of the other nations.

That said everyone I did see looked marvelous from the little children in their liveries to the expansive prosthetics of some of the Lineages.

I have to pat PD on the back for the plot that they dropped at our feet, and to all the players who grabbed that plot and ran in every possible different direction with it.

Special thanks to the Egregores, especially the Urizen one, who valiently managed to organise the situation and ensure that neccessary OC messages reached us.

All I can say is two months is going to feel like a very long time.

POISE BOX

*ahem*

Plot for the first event, roughly speaking: All the PCs just died on a catastrophic linear and a bunch of important players ragequit. We are the backup PCs, carebears and hurriedly promoted secondaries. The Empire is fucked. We must somehow unfuck the situation.

Given the circumstances - difficulty upon difficulty upon difficulty upon freezing temperatures and SNOW - I have to take my (warm woolly) hat off to PD. The event happened and I had great fun and everything eventually came together and clicked. PD have always done the plot that they've done well, and suddenly there's a crapload of plot and it's all at this amazing quality that we're used to from the rare NPCs and plot events in Maelstrom. And even among all of the weird stuff going on they still managed to read our spire background and bring out a personalised NPC just for us, and I promise faithfully to take the plot that that will give to us and pull as hard as possible.

I didn't see a vast amount because of the freezing temperatures, but it was really great to see people playing so hard towards such detailed and specialised briefs, and thank you for everyone who tried to shake my character's hand only to be bowed to in slightly affronted confusion. I look forward to the rest of Empire being this awesome.

Oh, and the orcs in particular were amazing.

There is nothing as important as your Poise. (I was Maximilian of Endsmeet Spire)

The Orc's were brilliant as were so many people really hitting the Lineages straightaway.

I had a brilliant time. Far too much to express here. In particular I felt the Imperial Orcs hit their brief exactly on the head, and it's a shame they didn't have more people playing them. I am looking forward to the development of the buildings and in particular the Conclave game.
Also, the photos so far look stunning.

Lo there - I'm Orthos, arbiter of Phoenix Reach. Large ginger type in a purple robe. Looks like rpg.net is all Urizen all the time.

That event was a fucking triumph. Well, it was mainly a triumph, but the fact that it wasn't awful in the circumstances is pretty triumphant in itself. It was great to get back in the saddle after a 5 or so year break from fest LRP, and I can't wait for an event where the environment isn't quite so hostile to human life. I only went visiting people when I had strong reasons - it'll be nice to just wander and bump into things.

I think half the spires of Urizen came up with poise boxes independently. I only escaped by being soundly mugged by Valerian for all my stuff, 10 seconds into time in. It was curiously liberating.

I heard Iulian's great speech for Spring archmage - which was inspiring and faintly worrying. Still, 3 archmages would have been greedy. I'll have to tut at him about experimental Spring magics at some point.

Unofficial motto for Iulian (maybe also his spire) is QUOD DEBET - QUIA POSSUMUS. Once I find out if Latin is an IC language I might see about making it more official.

I am the arbiter of the Auric Horizon spire.

Main thing the Conclave needs? Benches. Many benches.

I didn't go, but all my pals were in the Brass Coast, just to balance out the Urizen love-fest (I don't blame you though, only nation that made any sense to me).

If the Conclave gets benches for everyone, I will be sad. I had this wonderful plan for next event of turning up to the hall of worlds early and then renting camping stools out for the duration of meetings.

Oh, and Brass Coast here. But only because my local larping group were doing it. My backup plan is Urizen Day 3 member of the Unfettered Mind. Which will end hilariously.
