>I just do not like most elements of the background.
>I really do not get what the fuss is about. Whedon
>can be a decent writer, but he is no Orson Scott
>Card, and not ever terribly original.

What I like about Whedon's writing is the witty banter between the very human characters. He makes me wish that me and my friends talked like that to each other. The plotlines, backstory, etc. are often a bit trite (though I can name a dozen Buffy episodes that were really groundbreaking), but they're not what does it for me. Whedon's a dialogue guy, and I like good dialogue.

I agree with everything you wrote right there. Whedon's is the master of witty banter between characters.

Compared to Elmore Leonard or Tom Wolfe I think he is a piker, if you want an SF writer to compare to John Barnes is amazingly good. The little differences are what make life interesting, and we all have our opinions.
