You know what killed Palladium?

Dungeons & Dragons 3rd. Like Palladium, but unlike most publishers, Wizards is trying to reach a serious mass audience. And they're using levels and classes and all the other crap we look down our nose upon but which a lot of people expect from their RPGs. But they have serious editing, quality control, focus groups to see what people want, and all of that jazz. And Palladium can't compete with what they have.

Assuming Siembida's unusual attempt to save the company fails and the Disney wrinkle turns out to be nothing, I predict that Hasbro will take a shot at getting the IP. They will probably succed.

I assumed it was the shoddy products and acting like a jerk when dealing with fans and refusing to update their system to the point where it was absurd.

But no, I'm sure it's DnD 3rd. I'm sure it's not their fault.

Me too. I guess we were both incorrect. While D&D hasn't killed the rest of the hobby, apparently, it has killed Palladium.*

*I didn't realize Palladium was dead yet, either...

Bears.

It was bears.

Big honkin armored bears stormed the tower and dragged Kevin kicking and screaming, with their terrible claws and mouths dripping with printer's ink.

And then, at night, the ice weasels came.

Strange as it may seem to you, Dungeons & Dragons 3rd (and d20 in general) is actually what drove me back to Palladium. I had played Palladium back in the day, but after a time drifted away from it. Around the time D&D 3rd came out I gave it a try like most everyone else, but it just wasn't for me at all. Sure, the production values were great and it looked really slick, but I just hated running it. It managed to turn me off to d20 entirely and I eventually ended up with Palladium just to escape the barrage of d20 products on the market. Even with it's problems, I find that Palladium just flows better for me.

Did they fly and shoot lasers from their eyes?

What the hells is this line from? I've seen it quoted in a sufficiently large number of unrelated contexts that it must be a pop culture reference of some sort, but for the life of me I can't figure out what, and it's driving me crazy.

Um... carry on. ^^;
