Or, conversely, that you heretics are well on your way to irretrievably contaminating the states and practices of the True Timeline. I swear, if I catch one more amateur xenohistorian botching the Rite of Butchering an Elder Sibling, I'll boil him in lye and insure that not even worms taste his final thoughts.

Re: [nMage] the other 99,999 Leaves

So here I was at half three in the morning outside some pissant little motel in this pissant little town about two hours out of Broken Hill, hoping no bastard from the pub across the street comes out while I dump a couple of legs in a garbage bag into the motel dumpster.

Hey what can I say? I was a bit peckish, this chick called Vicky at the front desk seemed a bit cute, so I worked a bit of mojo and got her to come over for some fun and a feed. Hammed it up too because I love a bit of irony, went to town with the "good enough to eat" lines. She thought that was bloody hilarious for some reason and said that I'm the one who looks good enough to eat. Then we get up to my room and get nice and relaxed, and well, she sorta ends up deadish.

And no I didn't just get overexcited like that time in Melbourne, Vicky bloody bit me and I had to get nasty.

No no, really bit me. Took a bloody great chicken mcnugget out of me bicep is what she did, then swallowed it whole and tried to brain me with the bedside lamp. Kept ranting and raving about how hungry this Var fella is and I was going to a banquet or something. Long story short, I get my shit together and let her know that I'm not the one getting eaten tonight, really put the boot into her. And I'm telling ya, a hard earned thirst needs a big hot drink and the best hot drink is Vic, so I sucked her dry and then took her to the shower so I could carve her up and get rid of the body. Bodies are always best disposed of in bits instead of whole, means you don't have to worry about doing your back in trying to drag a whole carcass by yourself.

So anyway, I've dumped her legs and gone inside, and I'm coming back out with her torso in one bag and her arms in another, and no word of a lie, there's the local fucking constabulary at the dumpster, blood all over their rubber gloves, poking around at the legs in that first bag. Thought I was toast mate, I really did.

So I'm staring at them like a stunned mullet and they're staring at me like stoned crows, and they see the bags and they put two and two together and get guilty as sin for an answer. And then, I shit you not, the sarge just licks some of the blood off his hand, nods his head at the bags, and says "Don't mind if we have that do ya mate? Waste not want not."

I'm telling you mate, I legged it faster than a rabbit at a fox convention, tore out of town in me car as soon as I was in it, and didn't stop driving until half an hour before dawn when I found a barn to hole up and have a nap in.

So yeah, if you're ever in that neck of the woods and you feel like stopping somewhere for a bit of a nibble, don't stop at Turtleshell Ridge. Crazy buggers there don't understand who's supposed to be on top of the food chain.

Yeah I hate to admit it, but I went back and gave the motel lady a name just so I could use that terrible, terrible line

This is a news article from the BBC which sounds suspiciously Leaf-collector-ish.

So, here's a thought this part ended up bringing about in my head.

Suppose the Red Word, the Prince, all this Vah business is a scam. Take a look at what the cult is essentially built out of, and who it targets. Highly intellectual and driven academics and their twisted-up cannibal progeny, all searching for evidence of a world that cannot and will not exist at the same time as this one. An organization that one cannot escape from without being slaughtered.

It looks a lot like a labyrinth to me. After all, the original labyrinth had a flesh-eating half-human monster wandering about it to kill the seekers within, and doesn't that just describe the sub-human cultists of the Red Word?

So, is it possible? Could the Guardians have created the Red Word to keep some of the worst occultists in the world chasing after paper trails instead of finding some actual Abyssal entity and summoning it in a quarter of the time it takes to find a shred of the Prince's world? Is there, even now, some cultor out there fabricating evidence of the Prince and using UPS to send it to the corners of the earth for the cult to "discover"?

I'd be tempted to have that as a layer of revelation, and then (as implied by my Free Council character voice for the last bits on dealing with the Prince) have it be a real (for Abyssal value of real) entity.

The fabrication has taken on a terrible life of its own.

Sort of like Foucault's Pendulum with more cannibalism.

It does bring up some interesting questions though. Are the Guardians responsible still active? Are they still at work keeping the cultists and the Accursed falling into their trap chasing their tails, even while their efforts simply bring the entity hijacking their work closer into reality? Are they themselves hijacked, a conspiracy of Accursed creating their own labyrinth? Or a bit of both, to the point that the harder the non-compromised Guardians attempt to build the prison, the closer the compromised members get to bringing the Prince about?

Re: [nMage] the other 99,999 Leaves

Sometimes after tracking down another cultist, burning another "leaf" I wonder, the reflections of this Prince of 10,000 Leaves are uniformly horrible, the people who work to bring it about sociopaths or worse, yet the leave them selves, even when describing what would be atrocities for us, are so joyful, so happy, so full of life, in way I so rarely see in the real world.

What if the pieces horror doesn't come from Vah, from this Prince, but from us, from this place. That we are so twisted that things that should be glorious, beautiful are instead horrors. What if we are the ones that are "wrong"?

I mean imagine a world where death is a honor, an expression of love, where life flourishes even past it.

Would that not be a heaven?
